i have this dvd and it isn't working fine. i'm having problems with many dvds (some works and other don't).i did the firmware upgrade to 1.03, checked with "cdvd info" and "drive region" to see if everything was ok and it was. i tried everything but nothing seems to work. i have no idea of what could be done to solve this problem. i really need some help.

It would be helpfull to describe the problem in a bit more detail if you can. IE: drive not mounting disk, drive not reading decrypt key, software dvd player not playing DVD.. etc.. also what kind of media? DVDR, CDR, DVD?
and wlcome to the board, you may have been welcomed in another thread but I missed it....

sorry about it
well, the problem is when i put a dvd inside it, that light starts to flash like it was trying to read some dvd and then a message pops up telling me to insert a disk. When i try to access it clicking on the icon the message pops up again. every time is this problem.
by the way, all my dvds are original and ready to play in all regions.

hmm, ok, ummm, how can your DVDs be original, and multi-region as well? I guess your problem really sounds like bad media, or your drive is not aligned properly, have you confirmed they will play on any other players? Since you mentioned they are multi-region DVDs and only way I know to get multi regions is the good old HongKong silvers, or DVDR rips I would tend to lean towards bad media...

sorry if i made you understand that my dvds are from hong kong, but all of them are musical and even that one that i rent in a shop are original and they have the same problem, a message like this is written on the back
"compatible in all areas", and yes, i confirmed if they are playing in another one and they are. the real problem is with my dvd player. i'm sure they aren't bad medias, because they are playable in every player, but mine, it really drives me nuts.

Does this happen with a data CD or a music CD? Can it read any CD?
Check to see that the calbe is connected correctly and make sure the BIOS is picking up the drive.

No you didn't, I was thinking when you said multi-region you were referring to Movie DVDs. I have about 8 different dvd/cd drives in my home, I have one single drive that refuses to work with about half the media I try. I guess at this point I would have to say its a hardware issue with your dvd/cd drive. also since you mention these problems are happening with commercial audio media (music cd's?) I know that some of the publishers have really ramped up copy protection schemes, and saw mention that some of the latest copy protection actually made it impossible to play these on a computer.

data and music cds are ok. the problem is just dvds.
i already check the cable, the mobo bios is recognizing the player and device manager shows it correctly too.
i dont think the problem can be the cable, because theres only one dvd that can be played very normally, but the others are my nightmare.

I had the same problem not to long ago with a sony vaio. It would only read Cd's and not dvd's. I'd insert the disc and it would act like it was going to read it then quit and told you to insert disc if you tried opening the drive thru my computer.
The only fix I found was replacing the drive. Which is what I did, replaced the drive and the new drive works fine. Hav'nt tested the old one. I don't think its codec issues or anything, althou it could be. Hard to tell..
Good Luck with your format.

i think the issue is about driver or something, because if i put this player into another computer it works fine. I had a pionner before this and that's why i think its a driver, but it doens't matter because format will solve all the problems. :D
see ya
