Is the 80mm Vantect fan really that loud? I was thinking about it in combination with an slk900, but one of the reviewers here likened it to a dustbuster, is it really that loud? or is that slightly exaggerated, i mean i would enjoy hearing the games I'm playing afterall (well i think my klipsch 5.1's can drown it out..but thats besides the point :P )

:beerm8s: Welcome naxos :beerm8s:

I allways try and get a high CFM fan and put it on a fanbus. With the ammount of good, cheap rehobuses out there I can't see why everyone doesn't have one. You can turn down the fan when you're just surfing and crank it up when you need it. :)

P.S. I have a Delta SHE 80mm and yes at full crank it can suck up the cat. It's louder than a dustbuster and quieter than a shopvac.

Yeah that was my plan, ill just crank up the speakers with the fan, and what is the best way to monitor cpu temps, so i know when i NEED to turn up the fans...where and how do the diodes get mounted? right between the cpu and heatsink? sorry, im sure this is a super newbie kinda question...but i am one...so any help would be appreciated! THANKS a ton!

i want to buy the vantec tornado too, but the reviews scare me, 55dB , i won't be able to hear my games, songs, etc.

one of my friends in UK just bought VANTEC AEROFLOW SOCKET A CPU COOLER TMD 5600RPM 35.5CFM 38DBA
HSF for his barton 2500+

he says its a good one.

any comments or opinions

with kindest regards

I run a 92mm tornado on an slk900U cooling a barton, its really not that bad if its run less than max rpm, and it still cools nice..

The Aeroflow has been getting good reviews all around for a HSF that does what it advertises and more. There were some problems with defective TMD fans, but it seems that's blown over (whoops... pun not intended)

For less money, however, you can pick up an SK-7 and an 80mm fan and extend your cooling capabilities, so it is definitely not the best fan for the money.

Don't worry about not being able to hear your songs/games/etc... you will quickly get accustomed to a 55dB evironment get used to it. Even then, you can always pick up a rheobus in the future.

hey guys after thinking a lot about the vantec tornado fan and its noise probs, i finally got the vantec aeroflow today(read a lot of reviews), its a pretty good HSF combo. when i bought the ASUS A7N8X-DX board i tried the stock HSF and got the following hardware results with 400 FSB

motherboard : 35c/95F
cpu : 48-49 c/118-120 F
cpu fan speed : 3970-4017 RPM

but today i installed the vantec aeroflow HSF and was impressed by the following results:

motherboard : 31c/87F
cpu : 33c/91F
cpu fan speed: 5192-5273 RPM

i ran the computer for at least 2 hrs before taking the stats (both time) also the vantec aerflow makes less noise and runs at a max. of 5600 RPM at load, with 33dB (max. noise)

soon, i'll get HDDs (120+80, 8 mb cache both, maxtor) and ATI 9600 PRO and the system will be ready :D and i'll play some UT :2guns: on it.

with kindest regards

Drakes advice was good indeed, but you'll be fine with your choice:D

Indeed, by no means is the Aeroflow a bad HSF. You won't regret the purchase :)

thanks guys, you see all other computers (dell dimension 4550, dell inspiron 4150 laptop and my axim pocket pc) are from my parents money. and now i took a job at mc donalds, so i'm saving money and buying stuff out of my own pocket.
if the vantec aeroflow proves to be a bad one, i'll go buy drake's advised HS and fan.

i'm very happy that finally i bought a computer out of my pocket :D .

The aforementioned HSF would probably be the best bang for the buck... and you have to do it a little ghetto style by mounting the 80mm fan at a 45 degree angle. The SLK-800 + fan should be about $15-$25 more than the Aeroflow, and that would be a better buy.

The vantec was my second choice. I would have bought it if the zalman 7000cu wasn't in stock. BTW you temps are good!!!! :pc:

i have a vantec on my 2000+ (not a good one, its the budget one) and the 60mm fan took a little time to get used to the whine but i survived for over a year with it.
i bought an 80mm crystal maxx fan and adapter from compusa yesterday, its 52.6 cfm and quieter than hell. also lost about 8c after the swap. its thermally controlled so i put the diode under my HDD to keep it warm so the rpms stay at max.
the 2 blue leds are kinda lame but its the only light in the case, except the green led on the m/b.
