This is a six year project I helped my pops build. :D Its a 67 chevelle 454 tall block bored out to 550cubic inches, makes about 600hps on the dyno. With some good weather this badboy gets into the 10's.;) Yes I drag it too!! its just his hotrod, maybe mine here soon enough if he gets a new project.

reds, nice lookin ride there!!! I plan on swappin a 454 under the hood in my truck instead of this: http://24.223.181.232/cars/P6030020.JPG
I have almost the same truck as U amdrules except mine is a 93 extented cab short bed, The 93's had something wrong in the paint mix which caused them to chip and flake badly. I had mine repainted about two years ago, it looks great for a 93:D ,but I have no pics of it. :( Tonight me and my dad got invited to brand new drag strip in Barona,Cali ,about 45 mins away from San Diego. Only about 20 cars are invited to this kickoff tonight, so im stoked and ready for tonight. The times arent gonna be to fast tonight cuz the tracks brand new and needs lots of rubber for the concrete launch pad, but ill be sure to post a few et's when i get back, I'm thinkin 11's tonight.:2guns:
amdrules770
06-17-2003, 06:39 PM
sweetness, I want to take my truck to the strip sometime.
have you ever done a brake stand in the 93?
Hell yeah! everyday when I was in highschool. :ydance: I still have the same tranny to this day.
amdrules770

heh, my brake bias for now is messed uo, so I cannot get a brakestand going if it is dry out :(
A line-loc should fix that though.

06-18-2003, 11:55 AM
what is a brakestand for us brits?
amdrules770
06-18-2003, 12:03 PM
A brakestand is when you use 1 pair of brakes to hold the car in place while the other pair of tires spin like crazy. Obviously this does not work on a AWD car. Can make a very large amount of tire smoke. In a FWD car that would be using the parking brake to lock the rear tires, and mashing it so the front tires spin. In a RWD car that would be holding your foot on the brake and gas, so the front tires are locked, and the rear tires are spinning.

I've always referred to a 'brake-stand' as a 'power-brake'
My Cutlass made wicked smoke powerbraking but my mopars simply have to much brake bias towards the rear tires so it's a no go. No biggie though...All my Duster needs is a simple stomp of the loud pedal and the tires ain't got a chance ;)
Farabomb
06-18-2003, 04:47 PM
Yea, I allways refered to it as powerbraking.
I used to be able to do it in my comaros and the firebird just lit them up all the time.
Now with the scooby I can't but nothing beats a nice 4-wheel drift through a turn. Far better than wasting rubber and stinking for a few hours of burnt rubber. ;)

I totally pissed off a couple of neighboring county sheriffs deputies drifting through a corner last week
WesM63
06-19-2003, 02:33 AM
We in ohio call it a power-brake too, cept my cousins that live in wisconsin like amd. told me otherwise ;) must just be a notherner thing.
dicki
06-19-2003, 08:24 AM
arrr we call that a burnout, easy to do on a motorbike too but the tires are to expensive to waste like that!
if you do it in a RWD car don't you screw the back brakes as well as the clutch, tires and engine? cos when you stand on the foot brake the back brakes will be on too putting loads of load on the whole car?

She's not nearly as fast as my old supercharged 91 notchback, but its much easier to maintain and more fun to do light cruising in. It'll run high 11's at the track with the slicks on yet idles well too. No complaints:)
I sold the 91 supercharged notch to start over again with this one. I really like the 86 GT body style the best of all the fox platform stangs.

amdrules770

N/A and that fast, only 5.0, yet still runs nice? DAMN, I can't wait to swap in a BB 454 under the hood of my 1500. The thing only weighs like 600 pounds more than a 'stang. For now I have been enjoying the exhaust note of a 2.5" straight pipe that exits right after the cab. I think I am going to put on a short cherrybomb so it is legal, and make it more bearable when I downshift to slow down. The WHOLE truck vibrates if I downshift into 2nd going about 45.
mdzcpa
06-19-2003, 05:29 PM
hehe...I like a loud exhaust myself too:) Too bad the local boys in blue don't agree.
Yeah...I think the 86 is darn fast for a N/A set up. There are plenty of 13 sec bolt-on 5.0s around, and even a good number of 12 sec heads/intake/cam bolt-on guys too. But, to hit the 11s, it took some serious port work, decked heads (to get me up past 10.1 compression), and some decent suspension mods to launch it right..
Ahhhh...the 454. There's nothing like a whole lotta cubes:D

My favorite was " There's no replacement for cubic inch displacement"
I'll have to dig up some pics of the 68 bird - had a '67 400 small block, Carter AFB, aluminum flywheel and a muncie rock crusher with every second tooth on the syncro's filed off.
Used to be from WI - Pewaukee Lake area...

yeah, I was thinkin that your engine was not a slap together and get 11s deal. I need to start lookin for a 88-94 chevy truck with a 454 in it. Maybe find one with a 5spd HD manual tranny in it as well. Should be a drop in swap if I also switch the ECM, radiator, and move the motor mounts. Then I'd put probably in some domed pistons, new rings, lap the valves, port the heads, put on some headers, higher duration cam, roller rockers, and a much bigger tbi. But that all costs a lot of money, and I only work part time :( If I get a setup like that going, I want to race my ricer friend with a 260WHP '94 supercharged integra. And beatdown some stock stangs and the like. Smack around the 2F2F wannabes. Heck, my stock internals 262 v6 burns some good rubber. I can burn rubber all through first, and then chirp/leave a small black mark when I slam it into 2nd. Plus it sounds KICK AZZ when I get above 4k with the open exhaust.

kabooka, that is always what I tell the ricers at my work when they start talking about hopping up 4 bangers. The one guy needs to run 12psi boost to get like 270whp. I could get like 500whp with a well built 454. and have loads more torque.

I totally agree. Small displacement and boost is nice for fuel economy with some get-up-and-go, but to get real torque ratings (which translates directly into quickness off the line), you got to go with cubic inches.
Then again...how about both? A roots blower on that 454 would be mind bending (not to mention frame bending :D ).
I had a roots blower (Kenne Belle) on that 91 notch, but it was actuall too much on the low end. I moved to a Vortech so the boost would spool up and not come on hard to about 4200 rpm. So just when the 5.0 was ready to begin falling over, the boost took over and things got even more interesting.:)
Take your time with the truck and do it right. My 91 notch took 8 years to complete given time and money constraints. Keep your eye on the target and you'll get there:)

Good point, I just want to get a 454 in, because I have done most of the mods I can do that could transfer over to a 454 from a 6. All I have left, is electric fans, and a MSD 6A box.

Don't be knocking the rice. Well, knock on the Hondas (sorry Tom) all you want. :D
I've had my share of Detroit iron and yes they make sick power. I've had 3 comaros and a firebird with a breathed-on 350 that made gobs of power. I also worked at a shop where I had acess to a lot of powerful cars (for months the first thing I had to do was warm up a 67 427 tri-power vette and move it. Yea, I moved it :D )
I'm not a fan of drag racing. With enough $$ you can make a pinto go like hell in a straight line. I'm a big WRC fan and I LOVE my scooby. It goes like hell and it can turn too. :D The new WRX STi afaik have 300HP stock and I know it's not 12lb of boost making it. Skylines are insane, so are supras.
But there is still no replacement for dispalcement. :D

I'm also going to swap a full floating dana 60HD into the rear of my truck. I'm getting one out of a friend's wrecked '77 F-250. It also has 4.10s in it which should be good for quite some time. The rearend in my truck has 3.08s in it. UGH. And I need to rig up some traction bars so I get rid of all the darn wheel hop I have.

I don't know if you guys knew or not, but my pos car I have is gettin a rebuilt tranny and the quest for a sports car continued. Well just the other day my boss ran acrossed a 1987 Porshce 944 turbo. Well the deal was he could have it for $2800. I thought what a p.o.s! They guy then ended up tryin to make money and wanted $5000 for it. Well to make a long story short, the guy soon realized that he was'nt gonna get that much money out of it.
So he said $3800 is the lowest he'd go and I jumped on that offer. I just looked at the car and it is immaculate. Boy do I bleed blue, but this car for that price is insane. I'd be a fool not to buy it.
Anywase its a 1987 Porshce 944 turbo with 105K miles all original cept a new indash cd player. Interior is perfect and exterior has some minor cosmetics, the paint on the hood is good, but starting to seperate under the clear. Other than that and a small ding the body is excelent.
I'm just waiting on a call back from the insurance company to make sure i can drive it if i'm not the primary drive and then the car will be all mine.
Oh yeah, its a 2.5L 4cyl turbo, 235hp rwd car.
Stock 14.6sec in the 1/4mile
0-60 in 6sec.

i'm with fara on this one cornering is where its at :)
in my opinion a kit car with a 1000cc motorbike engine weighing 400kgs *with the driver* would kick arse in any race... and it would give you a damn good fight in the drag race might not win because the top speed won't be great but when you pull away at 14000rpm slipping the clutch till 60mph you know its gonna be quick.
any bikers on the board? i'm on a zxr400 at the moment and eyeing up a honda firestorm for my next machine :)

no, that is after like 15 seconds, my friend messed up the camera after that pic, so the rest of the smoke went to waste. I had pretty much the whole truck covered. I backed up a bit, and had to sit there a bit so I didn't run into anything until the smoke cleared.
