Hmm. Interesting. I sort of agree with the article (I don't usually agree with or even like anything that overclockers.com produces) but, a little off topic and philosophical for a hardware review site? Maybe a thread on a BBS at best hehe.

The only point he made that wasn't pretty much a given was whether or not playing god in a virtual reality makes actual reality seem even more shitty. You'll have to ask Neo or Morpheous that.

I haven't given it enough thought to even have an opinion on that. I can see the possiblity either way. Ever wake up from a dream where you had something you really wanted, only to find yourself in bed utterly disappointed that you were back in reality?

What ever purpose those kinds of dreams serve is what makes games attractive. People LIE to themselves constantly. You have to, life is pretty much unbearable if you constantly realize just what it is. So the human conscious has the ability to daydream, to play games, to escape from reality. Humans have been escaping from reality since the beggining of time, its part of who we are. And now we have the technology to tingle that part of ourselves even more.

Escaping from reality is healthy, it's natural, and it's probably good for us as long as we have the ability to come back down to earth when we need too.

Of course, you can't just talk about reality as though it is tangible either. When someone sais to come back down to earth, what do they mean? Reality is nothing more than how you're brain perceives... everything. Does it matter if someones perceptions are different? I guess if they can't funtion without help. I know most gamers don't know how to shower or eat properly, but most of them still get along okay ;)

From a realists point of view (me) the author needs to stop waxing so 'matrix' ;)
