LN.com will be moving to a full 1024/1024K DSL line starting...this week I guess. There should be a decent speed improvement, as well as extra bandwidth for hosting permanent game servers. I will also be purchasing additional IPs for backup servers, which will improve site performance and reliability.
Why the upgrade? I'm dropping my cable modem. I will be sharing my home bandwidth with the DSL line. Because the DSL line is full duplex, me downloading at 1024m will not affect the servers upload performance. The only performance hit would come if someone was uploading large files (100m or greater) to the site at the same time I was downloading large files at home. Very unlikely.
The cost will be about the same for me, as I currently pay about $100/mo for all the bandwidth at home. That will remain the same while switching to all DSL. However, the change is making more efficient use of those resources. For the same amount of money, LN.com becomes twice as fast, has more IP addresses. My download speed will be cut in half, however, as I rarely was able to use a full 2g down anyway, it shouldnt be too noticible for me. It just makes more sence to do it this way. If it doesnt work out, I'll just switch back to a split broadband again.
Ill let you guys tell me if/when you notice a speed improvement :)
