well after a lot of swearing and gnashing of teeth i finally get my new machine up and running...

i don't have a lot to spend on computers so these bits have been carefully chosen for maximum bang per buck

XP1700
NF7-S v2
Corsair platinum 3200
radeon 9500pro

cooling
Danger Den Maze 3 (soon to be replaced with a .....)
thermochil 120-2
eheim 1250 (repaired with a spot of jb weld and a whole lot of swearing)

i'm currently puttering along at a stable 2360mhz (11.5 * 205), turbo memory timings, agp at 70mhz.

and things are going very smoothly, i'm going to put together a breif review on the new products i'm using and this will be the basis of my test rig for future products. so if any ones got advice on where to take it from here feel free to chip in :)

Hi Dicki,

Nice setup you got there, isn“t nice when you pay less and got the same performance of top components? :D

Nice overclock btw! congrats.

KODE.

I've got pretty much the same setup sitting in boxes at my apartment waiting for me to get home and play with them. I picked up a 9600 pro instead of a 9500 though. And I don't have a wc system yet.
Hopefully I'll be able to get the same results as you when I do get a wc setup. Congrats

i was amased at the difference the water cooling made... there must have been something wrong with the air cooling because i couldn't get above 1700mhz no matter what i tried even though the temps were below 40c... slapped on the water cooling and went straight for 2100mhz and it did it without a flutter

the word water coolin scares me :( i really don't know how to operate Athlons and i'm buying the Barton 2500+. Is it really necessary to get water cooling if you O/C your Athlon

if not, whats the best air coolin HSF?

with regards

water cooling really isn't scary any more, its quiet (relativly) cheap and simple to install... companies like swiftech sell 1 box kits so you know your getting all the stuff you need and don't have to faff with tubing and connectors and barbs and hose clips cos its all in the box.

as you can see from my results water cooling was a must for me... i was using an old SK-8 cooler so certainly not a good one by todays standards but still i was very disapointed in the results i got with it.

for good coolers nowadays the slk900, alpha 8035 (i think), swiftech 462 (or something) are all good ones to look at
