I think comcast will be hooking you up with a surfboard. When I installed my friend's cable modem that's what came with it. :)

Then by all means pick one up. My friend has had 0 problems with his.
If you have other Linksys equipment, you may want a Linksys so they can stack, otherwise the surfboard should be OK, as cable modems are so simlilar.

I would say that the surfboard would be cool... I have a toshiba pxct1000 and it works flawlessly no problems, but then again neither does my buddies 3com shark fin modem... They are pretty much all the same..But i have heard the surfboards are pretty cool

I've had two 3coms that were kinda finicky. I have a sb now and it has been fine. If I were buying my own, i'd probably be looking at either the sb or the linksys.

Interesting and Timely thread since I'll finally be moving off my aging USR 56k modem:P question though, what is the difference, less packet loss? higher average speed? disconnection problems? I've never had the option to use cable before so I'm in the dark when it comes to problems....
