Wow, this seems like kind of a "were sick of your whining and thats, that" statement..... This really is a poor response IMHO from Abit, and speaks poorly of there Support....

Read it HERE (http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11496)

Hmm, interesting.

Still, you have to wonder why such a stink is made over temperatures anyway. Most overclockers know that you cant compare temps from one system to another. There are really only four temperatures worth worrying about:

Frozen CPU (<30c)
Normal CPU (30c - 60c)
Unstable CPU (60c - 90c)
Dead CPU (>90c)

As long as you can read with in 10 degrees of the temperature, its a fair bet that the actual temperature doesnt matter, rather that you are running within a 'normal' range for your particular application (which is of course lower if you are overclocking).

Yeah, I agree it isn't an issue for me, but in my wandering around, I've seen people with more serious problems, like after a couple hours of gaming the temp reading are so high they cause shut down, and alarms... these are usually with air cooling, but still, I don't think the majority of the boards will ever see H2O or better.. I would be pretty mad if i spent 200+ on a motehrboard that sounded alarms or shut down everytime I played a game for any length of time...

I agree with player0, this is hardly an issue.

I cannot help but wonder if these people with shutdown issues have even gone into the BIOS to select a higher shutdown temp. The overtemp circuit is non adjustable but does not engage until 135c...so that is NOT the cause. That means that the shutdowns are coming from the BIOS built in Shutdown which works off the other sensor (the one that reports CPU temps). Why don't these guys just select a higher setting?

And...if you read between the lines, I think Abit is saying that some of the other brands, have "manipulated" the read out to report lower temps. This is likely just to make users feel better.

I support Abit's stance on this issue as I think the "higher" temps are closer to actual inside the core.

Hmm...now that I actually have a P4 and an IC7, I wonder if thats why my temps seem so out of wack.

Yep...that's the reason.
