View Full Version : 6:2:1 divider found on the B6 BIOS!
Hi all,
First of all I typed the wrong BIOS name in the thread title, I was hacking the C8 BIOS (for KD7), could some administrator please edit it to C8 for me please?
I was hacking the C8 BIOS to make it show the ACPI enable/disable option when I decided to "travel" along the other options. Imagine my surprise when I entered the FSB: AGP: PCI menu and found a 6:2:1 divider hidden onder it! (marked "non-selectable"", but you can modify it to "selectable"). Could this divider work???

Hi Kode,
Go for it.
What is the worst that can happen?
Let's see, toast the BIOS maybe. :P
Just make sure you have a flash backup of the BIOS, then if you toast the BIOS, just reload the backup, and know it does not work.
By the way, if you try it, let us know, so we don't ruin our BIOS too.
Just kiddin'. You will not have any problems, I don't think.
The worse that can happen is it will not go to 6:2:1 divider.
Take care, you brave man........;)
Very funny Lee... :D
Just flashed the hacked C8 BIOS with the 6:2:1 divider set to "selectable" and it I can proudly say It doesn't work! :D The flash went ok, reboot, memory count ok, and then I was greeted with a checksum error, pressed del and got a blank screen. just flashed to original C8 again.
note: You can change the values of the dividers on that same screen, if you hit enter when the 5:2:1 dividers are highlighted you can write anything you want on it, (Look picture). I'm saying this cause maybe I could set the 5:2:1 option to 6:2:1, or even disable the 5:2:1 and enable just 3:2:1 / 4:2:1 and 6:2:1, who knows? maybe it's a lack of space to display all the 4 options???

Sorry I saw this late. I could've saved you a bit of trouble.
The option does not work because the KT400 (and the nuetered KT400 called the "new" KT333 on the KD7-E) does not support the 1/6 divisor at the chipset level. VIA had originally planned on DDR400/200FSB support for the KT400 (hence the "400" in the chipset name) but bailed out at the last minute when they had trouble getting it to run stable. The Abit BIOS option is a leftover from good intentions which never bore fruit.
The original KD7 boards actually had the BIOS option showing when the boards were first released. Subsequent BIOSes hid the dead option.
