Hi guys:

I have a question, I own 1 stick of 512mb Mushkin DDRam High Pref, cas2. What kind of FSB can I expect from it? Here is the link to the Ram:

Cuase I see guys getting over 160fsb with 2100DDRam and I cant get past 160.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,
to be honest I have found that some of these DDR modules are a bit weird. I have a stick of no name ram, chips are Elixir, that is CL2.5 PC2100. It won't do Turbo timings at PC1600, but at normal timings and conservative settings it will happily do 160, so go figure.

I think that the increased signal traffic that goes along with DDR means that they have a narrower band of operational comfort.

I would say back off the settings to fairly conservative, like optimal defaults and then just ramp the FSB till it falls over, making sure to keep you chip within the range of its capability, that way you can be sure it will be the ram that falls over. FInd the highest it is happy at and then try to make the settings more aggressive.

I have no experience of the Mushkin stuff, but it has a good rep and so should go far.

Bear in mind too that the KT266A chipset, if that is what you are using, has some weirdness around the 150-160 FSB settings. For some reason no one seems to be able to get hte dividers rightin this range.

Good luck,

LD
