One of our new forum members, PiLsy, has put together a nice review of 5 of the most popular DDR memory choices, and puts them head to head in shootout fashion.

Read the review HERE. (http://www.liquidninjas.com/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=32) Feel free to comment:)

Very tidy review :) I've never tried GeIL before, but I'm tempted to get me some now :)

I figure, though, that it'd be best to compare RAM all rated for the same speed? I mean, of course PC3200 will beat out PC1600, why bother testing?

Nice review.:D Ever since i bought my stick of geil, i've never wanted to try another. I'am gonna stick with the tried and true, XMS.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Drake - I learned a while back that just because something is "supposed" to be faster, it doesnt mean that in its overclocked state it actually is faster. Afterall compare a 1.6a P4 to a 2.0A P4. The 2 gig chip - sure its faster at stock, but try winding it up over 3 gig and youve got no chance. Ive seen many 1.6a's over 3 gig, some (including mine) can just about do it on air.

To further proove my point, the fact that the balls-out kamikaze fastest stick is actually the corsair XMS3200 using 6ns chips - on paper the slowest memory in the review kind of concludes the deal :). The intention with this series of articles is to compare the performance of all the top sticks of memory you hear abut on the forums. Im also trying to educate possible buyers out there that just because it says its the fastest stick doesnt necessarily mean its suited to your system. Afterall, on a board with only moderate voltage adjustments you would be better off buying the 3700 Basic stick instead of the 3700EL. Performance is all relative to what you have on hand and what you are trying to achieve :). Most of all thought it should work out to be a nice comparison between the latest and greatest and the tried and tested. A full on comparison showing roughly what you can expect from pretty much everything thats on the menu out there for the enthusiast :).

Ive been very unimpressed with the (lack of) response from GEiL and Kingston. Not even an acknowledgement of receipt of the email. They must be that confident in the pictures on their websites that they dont need reviews ;).

Still, I expect most of the sticks to be put through their paces to come from friends and other reviewers I know. Theyre always much easier to deal with and less likely to get upset over below par performance :p.
