Hi Guys (gals)

I am finally breaking the 100gb barrier (120gb). I am replacing a Maxtor 40g with a Maxtor 120g 7200 8mb :)

How do I mirror or copy or.... the info from the 40 to the 120?(FAT table and all).
The 40 is going into a PC I am building for my niece, so it will be formatted and XP installed. XP home is my Windows version of choice.

ANyone.......?

Create an image of the drive and then restore the image to the other drive, I suppose. I'm fairly certain that you need software that can create images of HDs to begin with, though.

Maybe the WinXP backup tool will suffice? I dunno...

I do not think that WinXP can do it on its own.

I use "Drive Image 2002" with XP systems,. (the only version of DI that works with XP)

Norton "Ghost" is another alternative.

There is a freeware proggy that can do it,.

And most new harddrives will come with a utility that can pull this off as well,.. but they seem hit or miss.

fwiw the disk that comes with the drive (retail box) also works well, for me anyway!

MaxBlast 3 (http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/maxblast3.htm) from Maxtor is the tool. The copy feature on it lets you make an exact duplicate of your existing hard drive.

Hi all,

XP allows you do move all files and settings from one drive to another.
Go to Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
Follow directions to move ALL files and settings or any combo you want from one hard drive to another.

Take care.........
