I have a asus7v333 m/b with a xp2000, i am just waiting for a hhc-001 to turn up. Before with aggresive mem timings on a stock hsf i could get to around 143fsb. This was quite poor as my vid card seemed fine, and i have other dividers, I put it down to the CPU overheating mainly. My ram will run at 170+ coz i have had it on the 4:5 ratio control. My cpu runs at 60 full load..
Now with this new hs I am hoping temps will go down by 10c? coz at present its with stock thermal grease. I ordered some AS3 to go with it.
Does this all seem reasonable or am i talking madness?
How far do you think I can get this sucker, if i go to normal timings. Over 150 stable ?
Cheers

I've had problems with ASUS bioses and high FSB's. I have a A7V266-E and I use an old beta bios because I can't get the new ones above 145.
Right now I have it running at 155 11x on a unlocked 1600+ and I'm seeing MBM temps around 58-60 running seti. I have a alpha 8045 and a 80mm delta she with a digidoc sensor right next to the core and it reads 48-50 when I don't have my A.C. on. If you're taking your readings from ASUS probe/MBM the temps can be off by as much as 10+c. The Coolermaster will help but maybe you hit the max for the core? Maybe? If you can knock down the multiplier and see if that helps.

Right ok, yer I am using MBM, I have noticed erratic results recently, sometimes it goes crazy claiming the core is at 110c ?
Ill have to unlock the sucker then. Seems like a fun way to spend a day. Though at the mo I would settle just for nice temps at my standard clock, these high end xp's dont half run hot :( hopefully the thoroughbred can help this.

Farabomb - What are you case and ambient temps man, because that's quite incredable!
JaFFa - I would expect the HHC-001 to solve your thermal problems, and you wouldn't be wrong in thinking it will lower your temps by 10degrees C or more.

JaFFa i would not recomend this heat sink, it is not all it is cracked up to be, I got one and made a few tests with it. I also own ALPHA PAL8045 and using 120mm 84cfm.
With the hhc-001 I used my own fan 92mm 55cfm, I did not get good results, I compared them to the alpha pal and the pal wins hands down. The hhc-001 shot up all the way to 60+, while alpha pal kept it in the low 50's, there is a about 10degree difference.
If you want a good heatsink get the ALPHA PAL8045 with a good fan.
Let me know if you need any help let me know. I can give you where and what I got. Also try using Vcool or CPUCool.
You can also try SwiftTech heatsink they are also great buy.
Good luck,
Joe

joek71 - Are you sure you got the HHC-001? Because there is a version with an extremely weak fan that Coolermaster also makes. Either that or you didn't install the cooler correctly. This is the heatpipe cooler we are talking about... right? :) The HHC-001 is a tad better than the PAL8045.

I know what I have, and I disagree with you, I used my own fan that is better then the one it come with.
This is what you are talking about:
http://www.coolerguys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=001&Product_Code=CPC-HHC001&Category_Code=CPC-AMD
forget about the fan cuase people can switch them just like what I did, I used sanyo denki 92mm fan with it. I installed it and had a friend stop by and look if I did it correctly. I can take anything away from it but I like my PAL8045 with 120mm fan much better.
Thats my opinion, you can try for yourself and you will see ALPHA or SwifTech is much better.

Sorry dexter I missed this one.
I never saw my MBM temps go over 62c and not over 53c on the digidoc. That's with MBM case temps 32+c. I love my alpha, much better than my cck-6035. I was going to buy the coolermaster but at the time it was brandy new and a wee bit expensive.

Jaffa,
I agree with Dex here...the HHC-001 will perform much better than that stock AMD unit.
You should get a 150-175mhz overclock on a 2000 XP with good air cooling. That means a FSB of 145-147 or so with a locked multiplier. With luck, you may get eve higher. But, there just is not as much headroom with the XP 2000 as there are with the XP 1800s and lower.
If you really want to get the FSB up (which is great because you increase the CPU bus), you need to do the unlock.

cheers for the heads up guys, I recieved the arcel today and I have got the HHC-L61  Im gonna have to send it back... its annoying coz tekheads are usually so good. Does anyone know what the difference is between these two heatsinks is? Is it simply that the fan is a slower speed and therefore quieter?

Yep..that's the only difference. If you have a 6800 rpm fan laying around, you can pop it on there and have a HHC-001 without the hassle.
You may want to try giving the "quiet" version a shot first anyway. It would likely cool much better than the stock hsf and be fairly queit too. However, it will certainly not cool as well as the 6800 rpm version. But, it can't hurt to try.

Certainly can't hurt to try. Unless of course, you install the heatsink incorrectly, causing you CPU to fry. :D

i have thermal protection! :) ill give it a go once i have talked to tekheads about refunding the money they will owe me for this model. I keep ringing them but no1 answers the phone :( they dont seem to wanna reply to my email either...

What are the temp differences? How much improvement?

still dont wanna install it until tekheads confirm they will act send money back for the difference! I'll call again 2morrow :(

ok just installed the beast after waiting weeks for tekheads to reply, the guy says he did reply but it gost lost in the 'email system' anyway, im not too impressed buit hopeful that after as settles and the fact i have only the 3k rpm fan on will improve the situation, my temps have dropped about 4 degrees.....
I think thats not too good really, but i guess its coz of the slow fan ?

A 4c drop running a 3000 rpm fan is a great improvement!
And changing to the 6800 rpm fan that comes with the standard HHC-001 will drop it another couple of degrees for sure.
And when it comes to air cooling, a few degrees between HSF units is considered a big difference.
So far so good really. Now get that better fan:D

remember tho I am going from a stock unit worth 4 quid, that had thermal grease on it., i sorta expected from all the reviews and other things that I'd get a significant drop :/

06-26-2002, 03:42 PM
Trust me...get the fan. It'll probably be worth at least another 4-5 degrees. That's an 8-9 degree drop total....that is significant:)

ok, when you put it like that your right. Although im starting to like the silence from the pc rather than constant whirring .....

I can understand that my friend:)
Be aware that the 6800 fan makes some a good deal of noise. Maybe you should just see how far you OC can go with the 3000 fan before you change to another fan.

ok its all settled in now, i can go to 1850 mhz (from 1666) which i think is pretty good , and thats just with the 3k rpm fan, I am hoping for maybe at a pinch 1900mhz on a delta ?
I am pretty happy with that since the 2000xp isnt a great o/cer :)
