Ok guys,

I have been hanging back on my major fun project. I have been learning as much about pc cooling as I can absorb.

I have a Bar fridge that has been on loan to some friends for a while. It has just come home to roost(literaly, it is perched apon an old army filing cabinet.) Amongst its better qualities are that its really cold and quiet. On the flipside, it badly needs a paintjob.

Ultimately, it will be a chilled water " server " for my better box in a few months time. But for the meantime, the urge to put a mobo in there is growing daily.

So I am open for any comments and ideas you may have on the preparation required for such an installation. I have set small circuit pcb's in resin before, but believe that it would be overkill for this project. One product that may be usefull is Sellys all clear, I hope it is marketed worldwide, they have a tub version for brush application as well as the normal sealant tubes.

I am considering that , or clear laquer spray, or even a good freezer bag and sealant combo.

My concerns are of onboard heat and movement which could crack clear paint, and the sheer amount of silicon for the other way.

All thoughts welcome.

How cold is it going to get? I've had a mobo in a freezer overnight and it ran fine the next day, though that was the only time I used it.

it couldnt be any warmer than 4 deg celsius in there, freezer compartment would be less of course.

I just chucked a thermometer in there will post results. I do think there is enuf moisture in there to be concerned, I dont want to kill any folding rigs in a hasty refrigeration incident.

:D I just checked the thermo after a couple of minutes it had hit 0deg allready, and it was at the front of the bottom of the fridge far from the freezer box. In fact I might turn it down a bit.

The main problem I see is mounting the hardware. Maybe if you got a sheet of plywood and mounted everything on there it'd be easier...

And yea... do something about the paint! Probably impossible to do a window, so no etchings or anything :(... but I suppose some amazing things can be done with paint.

Ive been eyeing off a good looking black fulltower with window from a local retailer.

what do you think of a matching black chillled water server?

Mmm, 'd look nice :D.

That storm that was causin' hell up north and northeast has finally reached us here in Texas. A few degrees below freezing outside, ATM, and a heavy sleet (or whatever it is where slush falls...)

Alright, back on topic.

That case is just a cheiftech clone, and can be gotten for like $70 at newegg.

I don't think the egg ships international. :(

I could be wrong though. :)

What about the ausPC place that's on dan's data all the time? did you try there?

Now, mind I haven't been a Texan for very long, but where exactly is Sugar Land?

Nice thick blanket of ice has settled on us overnight, and it won't peep above freezing until mid-day. And school's not cancelled :(

A nice town just SW of Houston. We are a tad further inland than H-town and the winter storm watch/warnings came up to border ours but it only got down to 39f and no freeze. It has been sprinkling though.

I live in the hill contry, about 30 minutes above Austin in Georgetown.

The school district just determined it unsafe to traverse the roads, so no school today :D

We got about a 1/2" of ice on the road after a heavy sleeting last night, and it should only be above freezing for a few hours today. Never saw anything like it before, was amazing :)
