Got a bit bored this Sunday, so I took a trip down to the auto store and came back with some high-grit sandpaper :)

400, 600, 1000, 1200, and 2000 were used initially, and that gave a faint reflection, but you couldn't see much farther than 6" from it. Dug around the garage and found some aluminum polish that's older than I am  It got the job done, and my HSF now has a mirror finish.

Been running for ~30 minutes now, with F@H in the background, and the temps keep shifting between 54C and 55C, which is a huge improvement considering I'm used to running 60C on a good day. Idle is 44C, vcore is 1.8, and room temp is 26-27C.

Forty minutes of work, and a 6C drop in my idle and load temps. I am definitely a happy overclocker :D.

Sorry for the lack of pics, but my digicam sucks (http://www.liquidninjas.com/gallery/lovethedrake).

Thats an awesome result,

I have all the gear downstairs from polishing manifolds, you've inspired me to polish a few coolers here.

I dig inexpensive improvements the most.

wow nice temp drop, wonder if you'll see a second one when the thermal compound seats itself in a couple days. I saw an extra 1-2 about 24hrs after i did mine the lapping only yielded me 3c though :(

Running 49C now ;) but I suppose it's a bit chillier up here now than last night. I'll give another report when I get home from school.

'Nother update... After a few hours of work and countless soldering iron burns *insert incoherent grumbling* I wired all my intake/exhaust fans to 7v in parallel. It's a bit pointless scince my loudest fan still screams along at 60dB, but was a nifty thing to do :) And my wires are a bit cleaner :D
