Are you thinking of overclocking at all?

I think a AMD system with DDR will beat a Intel system with DDR.
I didn't check but, I bet the price isn't that much different for either.
Plus, how could you pass up a Barton?:D
Get the Barton!!!! and Let 'er rip.

I had to vote for the Intel, if it will be used for Video Stuff the Intel is better and also since it will be aircooled overclocking will be better suited with the Intel.

Intel would be better in both the overclocking and video encoding, I agree.

I went with AMD.
Only Intel's 2.8 or 3.06 chips will give Intel a real lead in performance over the Barton XP 2500. An Intel 2.53 would make it a toss up....with a slight edge to Intel. The 2.4 will definitely be slower (Even in video edit and capture where the apps are Intel optimised).
As far as overclocking is concerned, you can just up the multiplier on the AMD system without tinkering with the FSB. Or you can do both. With Intel it's FSB only.
A very close call to make. I'd love to see a shootout of both systems:)

You could always go with the 100% vote and get both.:D

I would only reccomend the P4 if you went with the dual channel ddr mobo. Its wicked faster. In that case i believe it would have the leg up on the barton.

Here's something to consider... the Gigabyte GA-8SQ800 (the little brother of the GA-SINXP1394) offer dual channel DDR and only costs $112 at newegg. This board would perform awesome in the encoding department, but I'm not sure about overclocking.
Silly me, forgot the link (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=13-128-175).
I suppose the downside is the lack of onboard features the nForce2 deluxe boards offer.

sweet. thanks. neva knew dat.
md said would need like a p4 2.8ghz to match performance of xp 2500+?
would dat still go if i waz to get this board or somethin' wit dual ddr p4 version?

the memory bandwidth of a dual ddr mobo for p4 will blow any athlon away(stock).. and thats going to help you the most.
i would bet a 2.4p4 would beat a xp2800 because of that
