View Full Version : Bubbles in Water

Well I finally got my watercooling system to the leak test stage and after having to sort out a few minor problems I have it all running leak free ... woohoo.

Problem I have is I noticed that gradually the crystal clear water began to turn cloudy, and this morning woke up to find it pure white!!! There's no leaks in the system, maybe there's an airpocket in the res (but that shouldn't cause too much of a problem, so I would have thought). I don't have a fill and bleed section ... my system is:

Swiftech MCW 5000-A Waterblock
Eheim 1250 Pump
BIX Radiator
Resevoir from PCLincs

Why is the water foaming up like it is, and how can I prevent it? I would rather not hear solutions which require me to shell out more money on what has turned out to be a pretty costly venture.

To me it looks like the problem lies with the resevoir, I'd rather find a remedy for this ... but would anyone highly recommend ditching the res altogether?

Are you using any coolant additives (Purple Ice, Water Wetter, etc)? Many cause foaming for a day or two after set up, but it settles down.

Another possibility is that turbulence in the res is drawing a vortex of bubbes into the pump intake. The easiest way to deal with that is to place a chunk of filter sponge in the res.

i'd dump the res, from the probs you've had, and get either a DD res ($25) or a harware store T (like $1-$3).

I do have purple ice in the water, and some clear blue UV dye which could explain why there's so much foaming. I actually did put a chunk of filter sponge into the res from the start knowing that bubbles or slight foaming may occur. Didn't think it would be this bad though LOL. I figured that with the res not being 100% full it could be causing a vortex which would send the foam through the system rather than keep it in the res.

bigg my first post does say I don't want to be spending more money on this system as it's cost me enough already.

BUT, good news is I think I've got it all sorted (for now). I ended up taking one end of the hose off of the waterblock and submerging the hose and the waterblock into the water solution, Had to run it for a while to get all the foam out and all of the air. Right now it's running, leak testing is already done but I'm running it to make sure no more foaming occurs. So far it all appears fine, no air appears to have gotten in and the foaming is gone :)

Purple Ice foams like crazy for the first day or two - I just left mine to it and it settled down fine. Glad you've got it sorted.

dude a t is like $1, which is less than you could sell your res for

Indeed a T is very cheap, but as I have everything I need to get a system up and running I was after a solution that didn't require me to order new parts when I shouldn't have to.

Anyways I managed to sort out the problem, took a bit of messing around but I managed to get it running nicely :)
