Right.

i am assuming that these microatx power supplies are rated properly (ie if it says it delivers 150w it really does, instead of normal 300w PSU's says thats what they are, but they really only deliver 150w)

where can i get them and will they drive a tbird/xp to a reasnoble level??

so far the only matx PSU's i have seen are 150-180w and i dont really wanna buy one only to find that it wont do the job

A 180w should be fine as long as you keep the peripherals to a minimum. A normal setup with 1 drive, 1 CD-ROM, and such should be fine.

they are going to be seti machines

so either a hard disk or flopp, lan card, and video, anything else either off or removed

all part of the master plan:)

Try and find out what the amp ratings are for the 5v, 12v and 3.3v line. 5v is what concerns me...I hope its hefty, or it may not run the athlons. Especially ddr machines.

get the best 5v line you can....3.3v line next. 12v line isnt so important, you can run everything with like 1amp lol.

From AMD - Common Amp Usage charts (for XP cpu)

3.3v :: 6a - 7a
5v :: 8a - 17a
12v :: 10a - 14a

The lower numbers are for an XP1800, the higher for the XP2100, and include motherboard and a few random componants.

They are probably failr accurate for what you are doing.

The Sparkle 180w units look *barely* enough for the job. Dont plan on overclocking. But...i think it will work okay. Not sure about a DDR system still.
