p4 2.4ghz or athlon XP 2400+

hello,

as u all "prob" know i'm lookin' for a system daz a good encoder
the choice is between dual ddr n no dual ddr.

the Asus A7n8x deluxe mobo with athlon XP 2400+ on amd side
or
the asus p4pe deluxe mobo with p4 2.4ghz ver. B wit 533mhz FSB on intel side.

which would u think would b faster better at encoding. of course i have AMD for general all round use :D

First off, if you are set on the 845PE chipset I would recommend the Abit IT7-MAX2 over the P4PE. It's $18 or so more, but it is the best board out there.

But if you want the best encoder and have money to burn, I'd recommend Asus P4G8X. It costs upwards of $200 (but not above $250 I think) and offers the highest amount of bandwidth of any board, challenged by only Rambus. This and a good set of PC2100 RAM would have all your encoding needs covered.

But if your head says yes and your wallet says no, you can't beat what AMD has to offer. The one thing I would do different is get a 2100+ T-bred, as those seem to clock a lot higher than 2400+s.

If you want the BEST encoder of the two it'd have to be the Pentium solution. I'm not a fan of their over priced CPU's, but if it's the better of the two you want then that's where you're money is going to have to go.

We would recommend the AMD motherboard. The AMD Motherboard has 8X AGP
support, and has Dual Channel DDR so you can get better RAM speeds out
of it. Also the A7N8X and XP 2400 Processor combo is a bit cheaper.

question now is would the dual channel DDR suprass the p4 2.4ghz 533mhz bus in bandwidth as daz wat encodin' needs. alot of bandwidth n cpu power.

seems that Tomshardware doesnt got benchmark wit abit max2 n asus.

but in the review i see against the chaintech and leadtech nf2. the asus beats dem both in encodin'.

The 533MHz bus is useless if you've not RAM speed to fill in that width. The E7205/Granite Bay chipset offers the greatest bandwidth, with nForce2 in second. However, if you overclock the 845PE chipset to ~180MHz FSB, it definetly beats out nForce2.

If you've the money, E7205 will meet and surpass your needs, however, if you actually have a budget, the Epox 8RDA+and a stick of XMS3200 C2 LL would set you pretty close to the 200MHz FSB mark, bringing in a hefty amount of bandwidth all on its own.

NO not a chance unfortunatly, you would need a 200fsb athlon to keep up with a dual channel p4 400fsb board. Your probably best off with P4 and dual channel ddr.
if you cant afford that then an xp1700 and any decent board reccomended here
