Wet 400 to 2000, moving in figure-eights. Koala oil if possible. Don't lap too much, and lap on an even surface, such as a mirror. The cost of lapping wrongly could be a burnt out CPU, or just a useless hunk of copper.

Oh yea, and you can mark an X with a marker on the surface you're sanding. Once it's gone, move to the next grit.

Hrmm? AS3 won't help... er, well I don't understand what you're asking.

Yeah, it's a lot more work than you'd think. Hopefully 400 grit was an improvement for the HSF!

I mean leave it at 400 grit and just rub some as3 in there so cover the tiny holes and whala..?

corect me if im wrong...

ok how many degrees is it going to difer from 400 to 2000grit?

2000 grit is a mirror finish.

If AS3 worked that well, there would be no need for lapping now would there? :p You're probably better off than you were before, but the smaller the grit the better.

I always use AS3 too. I just apply a small blob in the middle, then spread it evenly and as thinly as possible using e.g. the edge of an old credit card ;)

a put a paper thin layer or AS3 on the CPU and i put a blob on the HS... put a glove, rub the AS3 the wipe almost every thig with a card.. so only the tiny holes are with AS3

i lowered my temps by 4 degrees by using less as3 than i thought i needed. too much is too much! (thanx fara!:) )

No number, no 'grit' :p You won't be lapping anything with that :D

2000 feels pretty smooth, like a wall with a textured finish, but there's a definite scrape in it.
