whats your view guys.

2 new seti crunchers, spec so far

abit KD7-e
Athlon XP2100+ (tbred core)
256MB Twinmos DDR3200

i really wanna overclock the nuts of these and providing i get a half decent core i want to be doing 2.3/2.4gig of them

been looking at the following coolers, lemme know which you think shows the best value for money :)

Thermalright sk-6+
Thermalright sk-7
Thermalright SLK-700 (difference between this and the sl-7?)
Thermalright SLK-800
Alpha PAL8045

or any others you lot know? (where is that site that reviews all the coolers and then sticks them in a massive database, is it dansdata?)

I like the Alpha.

I got mine for $45 without a fan. Slap a Delta FF on it and you have one of the best out there.

You also won't be able to sleep in the same room with the computer and you'll slowly go deaf. Put a slower fan on it save your sanity. :)

Try Frosty Tech (http://www.frostytech.com/) for more info. :)

SLK-800
Vantec AeroFlow
HHC-001

Yea, it's Dans Data. I'd get the link but I can't seem to access his page ATM.

The above are best-worst from top to bottom. I'd recommend the SLK-800 because it goes for like $34 compared to the others wich are all in the $40+ range, save the bottom two.

A little note: the HHC-001 is louder than a Vantec Tornado.

/walks off grumbling about his HSF...

It hasn't been mentioned yet, so do you guys know there's a new Thermalright SLK out... the 900 :D

Much the same look/size as the 800, but being newer (and being Thermalright), I'd expect it to be even better than the SLK-800... and we all know how good it is ;)

BTW: the new 900 is available for both AMD + Intel P4 proc's, and is suitable for all current CPU's (and probably the next few releases too!) :cool3:

Yea, if you'd like to busta out with $50 for the cooler and $15 for a 92mm Tornado, you probably would have unmatched performance, but price/performance, SLK-800 is king.

Hey guys,
The diffrence between the SLK-900 and SLK-800 is that the 900 uses amd's 4 mounting holes and accepts 92mm fans. Both pluses.. but worth $20 more than a 800? Up to you. Seems to be a good cooler.

Just to note, [H] tested and found the slk-800 to cool slightly better than the pal 8045.

If it's any help... I run my pc at stock speeds, and right now my idle temp is 29.5C Thats about 5 minutes after playing unreal where the temp was at 32C. I would assume my mobo uses the external measurment.. cause I have no idea how its that low. But the cooler is wedged in a little cube where the exhaust fan is up against it pulling air out... and the psu fan is against it pulling air out.. and I have a 35CFM fan mounted to the heatsink. I chaulk it up to the tbred running so cool.

hey 4.6,
Your t-bred should be runnin cool. My duron that uses 1.6V core resides under a stock amd cooler runs about 29C w/two case fans.

With no OC whatsoever, I would just get the cheapest HSF with a bearable noise rating. I think the V7+ is somewhere around $27 and can run at 21dB.

Or the AeroFlow. I like it 'cause it's purdy, and it matches the performance of a V7+ on low RPMs. $30 or so I'd be guessing.

Just want to add, V7+ are nice coolers for $27-$29. Keeps my 2200+ stock at mid 30C.

these are going to be pretty heavily overclocked.

if NY's results are anything to go by, i want to be getting 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 gig out of these machines as they are going to be crunchng seti 24/7

and as there going to be in a cuboard i'm not too bothered about the noise, althought i would prefer not to be useing the 80mm screamers
