i am like...the biggest idiot in the world right now...:(
3 days ago, i spilled like, 1/4 glass of water on my ... laptop. down the keyboard, and...i KNOW the memory, drives, cd, dvd, floppy, hard drive, and battery are all fine, but it just wont turn on...and im extremely worried, cuz ya, im 15, and i bought a 2000 dollar laptop with my own money, ya, that's gotta suck eh? well, anyone got any ideas? its a dell, and my warranty doesnt cover it, and i cant get ahold of them cuz the customer service is always flooding the phone lines...some local guy said it'd be cheaper to buy a new one, I dont think so, but i know it will be spendy, please lemme know what you think...i took it completely apart...(took mem, drives, batt etc. out) and let it dry for 2 days, now its just sitting on my desk put back together , and it just sits there...ashamed of me. when i press the power button, the 3 LED lights (caps lock, scroll lock etc.) turn on for like 4 sec, then turn off...and there is NO sound whatsoever from the hard drive making ANY noise or anything, so i think the motherboard is fried or something, so if you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know....*sniff* thanks...:(

First off I would be more careful;) Second I would RMA it back to dell and not tell them what happened, just say it stopped working. Make sure that you get all those stickers back on that you prolly took off to take the laptop apart...you know the ones I mean, the ones that say that if this sticker is removed warranty is void.

the only way to save it is to give it an alcohol bath...that is, if the current cause of failure is remaining moisture.
otherwise..
back to dell

I feel for you jet. :(

I had a thinkpad that had a cracked screen but worked fine with a monitor. I left it at a friends house so she could use it while saving for a new computer. I told her that there was little that she could do that I couldn't fix......

I shall never say that to anyone again. Within a month I got call about an accident she had. While checking E-mail she spilled a "little" coffee on the keyboard and it wasn't working right. I went over and picked up to laptop to acess the dammage and got a lap full of coffee when I turned it over. Little my ass

She said it was working for and hour after she spilled it. apperantly the thought of unpluging it and not using it till it was dry never crossed her mind..... untill after the blue smoke came out of it an hour later.

Good luck with it Jet. Remember drinking and surfing don't mix. :)

Is she blonde?
Id bet she is. Not to thrash your friend or anything, but it would follow the trend.

Jetrunner,..

Chances are very good that the cause is an electricl short.

If you have any kind of warranty left whatsoever,.. do everything you can to make sure there is no evidence of the spill. Shorts can happen a lot of ways,. so Dell may just fix it and send it back. :)

Good luck.

I agree - I'd try Dell before trying anything else yourself. Sorry to hear about that - we all make mistakes though.

Hope your laptop is up and running again in no time. :)
