View Full Version : Fitting Swiftech H20-8500 to Chieftec/Chemming cases

All these lovely articles on watercooling have encouraged me to price up an all-in-one kit from Swiftech - if shipping costs from the US (as well as a couple of other factors) are not too high.
One hurdle I have - apart from COST, SHIPPING, INEXPERIENCE, and expense of the AIR cooling Ive just purchased ;) ...... is the fitting of the radiator to a Chemming style case with their exhaust fan 'seats' - has anyone come up with a stunning solution to this? the case style seems to be one of the most popular available so here's hoping for a little ninja ingenuity :D
thanks
Squeaks
ps, I'm still having trouble justifying the cost now ive received my SLK 800 (and new fans) but im certainly EDGING towards the credit card :D :D

Hey Squeaks.
I have a Antec that I think chemming makes. I had to put mine outside the case but you can take a look how I did it.
Check in my sig for the link to my gallery for some pics of what I did. Cabal also has a nice rig and it's all inside his.

Hi Squeeks, welcome to the boards. Glad to have more people of caliber around :)
Anyway, im not familiar with your exact case, but in my watercooling experience, mounting radiators always needs a bit of McGuyver work. Theres never a quick and easy way to bolt on.
Since your leaning towards the nice Swifty kit, perhaps splurge and get the whole case-in-a-box set up? Then installation is a snap, and you can always tweak and upgrade later. But, its an added upfront cost. If you like doing things yourself, add it to your own case, but you may need to do some drilling and bolting yourself. Luckily, the radiator is usually the only hard part, evrythign else can be velcroed ;)
the mcw-500 is not availible in a case only the h202B. personally, i'd recommend staying away for the swifty kit cuz of the rad. both wbs, and the pump (miuse the fill+bleed) can be changed over to 1/2" (it comes with 3/8"), and have good cooling capacity. the rad is the weak link being non-upgradeable, and have poor performance. selling the Slk-800 and fan shouldn't be a hard thing to do, as they are the best hses on the market. peicing a wcing kit together urself is ur best bet, but buying sa cooltechnica aqua extreme is another good option. this does cost a lot of money and replaces ur case tho. for a hamemade budjet consious sys, i'd recommend a swifty mcw-462UH, a hydor l30, and a heatercore form the auto parts place or from the junkyard. a larger budjet would allow for a BIX or BIP.

thanks for the responses chaps, I particularly liked checking out the gallery :)
I'm still only edging towards watercooling, so the thought of having to mod my new case to fit or even build up my own kit from parts leaves me a little nervous :D
I've splashed out on a new Chieftec case so a Koolance or similar is not an option.....what we need is an affordable, easily installed, effective and compatible/complete kit ..available in the UK...I'd also like to see World Peace, a woman who cannot nag (but ALIVE), and for Nils Lofgren (or even Bruce Springsteen) to achieve a number one hit :D
...and more seriously... the shipping of the Swiftech kit is not as high as I imagined, but now I've found a German Kit (Innovatec?) available for about the same total cost..AAAARRGGGHHH decisions decisions. I think I'll finish off the voltage mods to my various case fans and try out the SK800 with the panaflo 92mm (if i'm able to fit it with the 80mm clips!!) and make a judgement next week......ahhhhh, thats better - why make a decision when you can put it off until a later date :)

Everything that I've seen about the Innovatek has praised it as a good contender but not a good option for heavy-weight overclockers and the like. It'll get the job done, but Swifty'll get it done better.
Drake, i read the dumb rticle at THG the other day about swifty and inovatek... whew, innovatek paid them a pretty penny. any homeless person from the strrts of NY could figure out that the thing needs a fan, and THG labs are a bunch of "computer experts".

If THG chooses to embarrass themselves, so be it .
