chipset fan went tango uniform.
Just a reliablity report. New 4cm fan installed and all is well.
If you have one at this age or older please check the small fan on mobo for signs of not spinning freely as the lubricant dries up then the bearing overheats and then distorts slowing the motor to eventual stop. Then the driver circuit starts overheating bad. Burned my finger

What makes you say that? The Mobo is awesome and I've enjoyed and recommended it. It's just a 5$ fan and thought others could use a heads up before they loose a chipset.

Good Looking out Spldart

I try and take off my fans every once and a while and put a drop of teflon lube on the shaft. Normally quiets a noisey fan for me :)

Normally I do that too. In fact the PSU had one fan getting a tad noisy so I put some lube on it. But that little 4" sucker made no noise and gave no warning from the last time I had this apart for dusting. Fortunately I had set my temp warning right above the max I normally run and got warning beeps nearly as soon as it quit.

To be honest, I've had a few fans go out on me too. My KR7A NB fan is also dead....after about 1 year (bought it last Jan). I didn't bother changing it though as I keep the OC very mild on that machine. So I just unplugged it:)

All in all, those NB fans are just a tad bit cheesy anyway. I've had a few fail after several months and all various brands are involved (ASUS, Abit, Gigabyte, MSI).

I put on a little ass kicker that sounds like a bumble bee running....It's so cute :p 4 cm like the original but half again thicker. It's nice to know that the chipset fan failure probably wont cause a problem though.

Man my MSI dually chipset 4cm fan didn't last as long as my KR7A fan did :O
It must have quit a few days ago...I was getting random lockups that I couldn't track down so I figured I would tear down and rebuild the compy. Found the bad fan then. I mounted a 8cm fan with a duct directing it's airflow directly over the tiny chipset heatsink. It's very cool now ;)

All my little NB fans seem to die. Those darn 40mms. Same with hard drive cooling fans. I have to replace them all.
