I'g getting a 1800+ T-bred tonight for building a system for a friend.
I'm aware that some of the KT400 boards allow multiplier adjustments without unlocking them. I have a KX7-333R does the KT333 have the same ability or am I painting tonight? :D

I am fairly certain that t-breds come unlocked. If not, paint the 5th L3 multi. Even if you do have to paint, it's only a few minutes.

Cool beans. Thanks Drake
Let you know in a few hours if it worked. :D

You will need to paint the 5th L3:) The KX7 does not allow for multiplier access without it.

yea fara, my MSI KT3 ultra 2 with the VIA KT333 chipset allowed the chip to be unlocked straight outta the box... hope it works for you too

Only free :D
I have a feeling that this 1800+ will outpace my 2000+
I'm not going to buy a chip till Barton.
Maybe :)

Did you need to close the 5th L3?

is it only 1800s? or any other .13um chip?

thanks a lot amd!!!

As far as I know only the 2200+ was the T-bred A. All the rest are T-bred b's. AMD is no longer making the palomino core so soon all the XP's will be T-breds.
Don't know about the unlock yet. I painted the last L5 but I haven't put it in yet. I'll see if I can get it in tonight after I'm done packing for the weekend.

yeah they dont have 1700+ in canada for sale.. only palmilios..

Yup, the L5 bridge worked :)
It didn't boot at the same setings I had my 2000+ at (190/9.5x 1.85v) but I noticed that the T-bred runs @ a lot lower voltage.
I should have a chance to play with it tonight so I see what I can get out of it.

Sounds good...keep us posted:)

How do the T-breds like voltage?
I noticed that mine defaulted to 1.5v. To me that seems low but I'm used to paliminos.
I'm running 190/10x 1.75v. It booted at 2g but froze after a minute.
With a little bit of playing I think it's possible. :D

It's a catch 22.
They like voltage....BUT they get real hot real fast. I wouldn't go with more than +.15 on air or +.25v with straight water cooling for long term use.
You'll find that the Tbreds all take less power than the Palaminos at every speed grade. With the smaller die, and smaller .13 process, they get hot fast with voltage levels you were comfortable with on the Palaminos.

Thanks for the heads up Mike :)
Is that +.25 from 1.5v? She's geting a little toasty right now 47c @ 1.75v with straight water.
I'm really happy with 1.9g right now.
I know that won't last more than a week or two :D

Fara,
Here's how the cores went.
Pally up till 2100+.
Then t-bred A was 2200+ and the first batch of 1700+ and 1800+ were A's also.
T-bred B's were 2400+ and up and the second batch of 1700+ and 1800+. Now every thing is starting to be B's 1700+ and up.

humm? i need a new cpu cause this one has to go... nothing to $$ so i dont nkow if a 1800 palm or .13 i need to decide... im looking for value and overclockabylity... its a hard choice... and ill make custom WB for more effective cooling... so u guys are saying that a big block would go good on a .13..

The best price/overclock right now is the 2100+ t-bred B chip. Many are hitting in excess of 2.3GHz on air and up to 2.5GHz on water.

Now you tell me :D
Brinky
01-22-2003, 07:42 PM
yeah i noticed the 2100s are like 145 and then a huge jump to 2200 like 200$+
isw that the same for Tbreds?
btw whats the EXACT difrecence between A and B
Drake
01-22-2003, 07:54 PM
T-bred A die size is 80mm squared and B is 84mm... of course there are more differences but I don't know 'em :D
2100+ T-bred Bs are going for $100 at newegg.

i was thinking something abit cheper cause i have to convert to can $$
Drake

Not sure what CA$ is compared to US$, but judging from the prices on the back of my books, $145 sound about right. Shipping shouldn't be too bad, but more than usual.

01-22-2003, 09:33 PM
well maybe ill have to settle for a slower one then... i realy wanned a 333fsb... im thinking of lowering the multiper and since the kt333 suports 166fsb... well so what the next lower chip that OCs well...?
Drake
01-23-2003, 09:33 AM
1800+ seem to get into the 1850s range easily. I would personally save up for the 2100+s. The extra 400MHz overclock is worth it IMHO.
Brinky
01-23-2003, 10:33 AM
ok... so the 2100 are realy good over clocks rite? good i think ill go for it... even if it takes a while... thanks!:)
Drake
01-23-2003, 06:38 PM
Make sure you get a t-bred :) They are all B's, so you can only hope for a good stepping.
Brinky
01-24-2003, 12:46 AM
what u mean good stepping? (why do they make dif versions of Bs like axa...etc..
Drake
01-24-2003, 09:13 AM
I believe the only two Thoroughbred B steppings are ACUIB and JCUIB, with the one starting with A being the better one (I think).
Brinky
01-24-2003, 11:04 AM
maybe a
AMD Athlon XP 2100+/266 FSB Thorougbred Processor CPU 2100+/ 1.73GHz -OEM, AXDA2100DUT3C ($98)
if not...
AMD Athlon XP 1800+/266 FSB Processor CPU 1800+/ 1.53GHz -0.13 micro Thoroughbred Core Retail, AXDA1800BOX (prefer retail and its $78)
any coments?
Drake

The 2100+ is gauranteed to be a B core. I've seen good clocks of 2.3GHz on air and 2.5GHz on water with them, so definitely a good investment.
Brinky
01-25-2003, 06:11 PM
guess that will be it...
so what happend to tbred 2000?
and where can i buy a 2100+ shiping ot canada? any one nkow good place with prices?
Drake
01-25-2003, 06:16 PM
2000+ is the last T-bred A core, then it moves to B, though all cores will be Bs eventually.
Not sure where to shop in canada, though.
Brinky
01-25-2003, 07:14 PM
what u mean eventualy? so they stoped making t bred As?
(like so ppl are not supost to nkow that a and B exists a was a beta rite?)
Drake
01-25-2003, 07:52 PM
No, AMD just made a new core and it didn't scale well, so they made another core. If it was a beta thing I don't think it would be sold to the public.
All processors will be moved to the .13 micron process. It just makes sense that with two .13 micron fabrication methods, the better would be used. That coupled with the fact t-bred B 1700+s pop up every once in awhile...

is AGUIA a better OCer then AXDA
