Ok, I was looking up some info on my motherboard (Asus A7V333) because I may be upgrading the processor and I needed to know what it supports. I found out something strange, and worrying ... According to the info about the mo/bo it can support 3 banks of DDR memory ... BUT you can only have 2 banks containing DDR 333!! If you put DDR 333 memory in all 3 banks the system reduces the memory speed to 266!!!!!
What a load of shite, I never knew that ... kinda sucks knowing that the board is marketed as supporting 3 gig of DDR 333 yet can only support 2 gig of DDR 333. :2guns:

This only matters if you're running a 166MHz FSB processor. Otherwise it's called overclocking ;)

I don't quite understand what you mean Drake. But I was looking at getting the XP 2700+ which is made to run with DDR 333 (dunno the FSB, probably 166 as you said) ... I just think it's a bit of a rip off.

I'll have to check the packaging again.
Check your board revision, near the A7V333 by your PCI slots. Only rev 2.0 boards can support 166FSB processors, so you can only chose up to a 2600+ 133FSB processor if it's not rev 2.0.
You can put in whatever RAM you please. I'm running PC3000 at the moment.
[EDIT]: Strait from the manual:PC2700 / PC2100 / PC1600 DDR Support: Equipped with three Double Data Rate Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR DIMM) sockets to support up to 3GB of DDR333 SDRAM... So in fact, Asus does support 3GB of PC2700 RAM.

I had the Asus A7V333R only to find out it was a rev 1.04 and would not support the 333FSB chips :( so i bought an Epox and will get a Barton when they appear hopefully next month ...... I have had Asus boards for the past 3 years but I was real pissed off over the Asus REV thing, lots of people got the board only to find they had the wrong revision ..... sorry rant over :)

Tried, it doesn't work
Rev 2.0 and higher of the A7V333 do, other than that you'll have to check Asus' site.
