This is a way for all you dial-uppers (like myself) to "cache" F@H.
The way I am about to tell you is how I did it using the console version.
First of all start with a fresh download of F@H then make 4 new folders fold1, fold2, etc., move all your folding stuff to
fold1 right click on the F@H console copy it then paste it to the rest of the folders.
When you click on it for the first time you will be asked.
user name?
team ID [11899]
Ask before sending work? [yes]
Change advanced options? [yes]
Core type [fah]
Core priority [low]
CPU usage requested [100]
Disable highly optimized assembly code? [no] (it's highly optimized why disable it?)
system clock frequently has errors? [no]
Machine ID? (OK here is where the "caching" starts. For each of the 4 consoles you
have enter accordingly fold1 ID [1], fold2 ID [2], etc.
Be sure to have the -local flag in your shortcut target.
Once you have done this you can let all 4 run with no problems.
And the next time you check your computer you will have 4 WU's waiting for you!
Now you ask how do I get those stats in my sig?
Folding at home Stats v3
<img>http://dc.liquidninjas.com/dc/ln_dc_sigs.php?xfahuser=WackyComputer&xskin=FAH</img>
Replace < > these for [ ] these.
Replace WackyComputer with your folding at home user name.
Also if you're used to SETI it will seem like F@H isn't working, but it is, just give it time.

Happy folding!

hmmm... I think I got it. I'll try it tonight.
Does this only benefit dial-up users only? Would running 4 WU's with DSL be benficial?
OK, my steps so far:
1. Downloaded F@Home Console
2. Created 4 folders (Fold1, Fold2, Fold3, and Fold4) and copy/pasted console.exe in eahc folder.
3. Put "-local flag" in all four console.exes shortcuts.
4.Clicked on Console.exe from Fold1
Entered Name, teamID, ask before fetching/sending work, etc.
Hmmm, what do I put for "Use Internet Explorer settings"?
I went ahead and tried "Yes" for use Internet Explorer settings.
5.Then followed the rest of your instuctions.
I've only done this for 1 console so far. If this one works and starts completing frames then I'll do the same for the rest.

Only when the F@H servers are down.

Hmm..... well, there's something i don't quite understand about the configuration. Does this mean we have 4 F@H clients running at the same time? Wouldn't that slow down the F@H process of each individual WU?
Anywayz, is it possible that i combine this wif Firedaemon and run it as a service? But then again, running as service doesn't make the ask b4 using connection option to be utilised.
Hope to hear from ya soon, since i'm on dialup after shifting out of my previous hostel, and my F@H progress have slowed down a lot due to the fact sometimes WUs finish in the dead of the night and i wouldn't be there to dial the modem.

Hi GRexer :) :) Welcome:) :) to the LiquidNinjas.
Yes, it does mean you would have 4 clients running at the same time. But if you have a PC that is slower than say 1000Mhz, I wouldn't run more than 2 clients at a time. I run 3 at a time.
You just have to find the happy medium between how often you check your PC and how fast it is.
I wouldn't recommend running FAH as a service if you are on dial-up.
Welcome again.:)

Thanks for the warm welcome. :D
Hmm.... okiez, my rigs are at least more than 1GHz, so how many clients should i ration actually? Well, since we r running more than a client at a time, wouldn't the folding process for each WU slow down?

Meaning it's all about a trial and error thingy for myself between when do i usually check my PC once and also how fast the PC is?
Hmm... so.... running FAH as a service is only suitable for DSL connections, will keept that in mind. ;)
BTW, my current system i use most of the time is the same as the one in my sig, except i'm having a JIUHB0302WPMW XP1700+ running @ 10.5x171 in the Duron's place. ;)

Yes, that's the idea. But it's not slow enough to effect the project.

Yes!
If you are getting alot of Gromacs I would run 3 clients on your machine, but if you're getting Tinkers I would run 2.

Yeah, i think i get the idea already, i'm running 2 Tinker cores and a Gromac core on my PC now.;)

Well, BTW, i ain't folding for LN, sorry about that, but since the stats update is kinda cool, i kinda add it to display my team's stats. ;) Hope u guys don't mind. Well, the team i'm wif is my brainchild, so i couldn't actually leave it. Anywayz, we r trying hard to hit Top 250 within 4 months wif our limited machine power. :)

Shoot for the stars :) I remember when we were stuck around the top 100 or so.

No problem with using the stats sig. :D
Player0 coded it and the only stipulation is that liquidninjas.com is somewhere in it. It's skinable so if you like you can make one and apply it (not that I know how to do it but it's possible. ;) )

Hey guys,
Since I picked up those 2pcs I'm trying to get this folding thing goin.
Since I got the 4folders set up and the .exe copied into them all.. I just run the .exe in fold1 and fill out as wacky has stated.
Now do I have to run the .exe in fold2,3,4? Or how do I go about doing this so it does work in fold1, then 2 and so on? Or am I misunderstanding the conecept?

Hi Wes,
I just drag a shortcut from all 4 of the .exe to the taskbar. Then I click them all when I start my PC.
I like to have the shortcuts in the taskbar so I can add the flags.

I am currently running 4 f@H console on my barton2500+ on DSL connection
how much would it affect my performance or games?
Is 4 better or 2 better?
WesM63

On a high speed connection 1 client is better.
The reason for running 4 is so you don't have to connect as often. It takes longer to do a wu when runnning 4clients.
Player0
11-08-2003, 10:47 AM
It takes longer to do each wu. But you get 4 done at once.
In reality, it takes less time to do 4 at once than it does to do one after another.
Which is why I fold with multiple clients now :)

I know it is here somewhere but what are the programs used to hide the consoles?
Drake

TrayIt! (http://www.teamcti.com/trayit/trayit.htm) to minmize to system tray or FireDaemon (http://www.firedaemon.com) to install as a service.

Hi all!
Just joined LN.
1. I understand the P4's are much slower than AMD's when running f@h console. If that's true, would it still be possible to run multiple folders and make use of P4's hyper threading?
2. What are ur suggestions on running f@h console on a dual cpu setup? (Btw...they're Opterons)
Thanx.

Hi slim_jim,
Welcome to LN:)
I would run 4 on an P4 with hyperthreading and on a dual CPU system. I think I keep the FAQ more up to date than this thread.
Here's the FAQ. (http://www.liquidninjas.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=60&categories=Folding+%40+Home+FAQ#34)
