hi,

just wonderin' bout the meanwells power supply for the 226 peltier.

how hot does it get?

i'm thinkin' of cuttin' a blow hole on top of case since the power supply gon b on the first bay. but wit no fan on top. as theres insufficient room. (unless i mount a fan on top wich gon look 00gly. so im thinkin' of just cuttin' a hole and puttin' a grill on it. for the heat from power supply will escape easily

Try mounting your main PSU upside down. It'll take the air from the top of the case, then.

If you've not a PSU with two fans, then cutting a hole may be your best option. I think there are 120x120x10mm fans, though. Perhaps they'd fit?

It works great. no need for a fan at all...the meanwell fan and natural rise of hot air is all that is needed. And I highly suggest that you do it....that meanwell will throw some heat under load after extended periods. It made a huge difference for me.

Hrmm. I thought you meant further down the case between the main PSU and TEC PSU.

Either one would work wonders, compared to not having one at all :D

drake: well lets find out
imma run it witout da blowhole on top. see how hot my case/cpu temp get. 44C fullload temp of cpu right now/ 41C system temp

mdzcpa: how did u mount that meanwells powersupply fan in dere.
its too small for 5.25. unless u set it on a item like cddrive or something

also how u go bout setting these things up. i'm new to TEC cooling.

i'm goin' to hardware store in bout 10min. gon go see if they got 10 guage power cords. nother note. the TEC black n red wire is so short. how do i go bout makin' it longer. and how do i connect everything to the powersupply. if u can help me i'd b greatly appreciated it.

i'm still also waitin' on condensation proof kit thingy. wit da silicon, etc. and dielectric greese. from octools.com should arrive this week.

Check out THIS Installation Article (http://www.liquidninjas.com/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=20) ...particularly THIS Page (http://www.liquidninjas.com/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=20&page=5) for the meanwell set up.

You'll find the whole article will help you I think:) It covers everything you're asking.

I imagine it'd be healthier for the components in the top of the system (CD drives, etc.) rather than make too great an impact on your case/CPU temps. The air will stagnate in the top.

I agree with this!

soccrstar...you will really want to add the blow hole. Until you get that meanwell running, you may be under estimating just how much heat that PSU puts out. The top of your case will actually get very warm to the touch...it will surprise you.

ANd if you want that PSU (and other components sitting high in the case) to live long...you need to do this.

Of course...this is just my opinion:D

and wat iz dat thing dat u put over it. shrink wrap or somethin?

Yep soldered...it's the only way to do it right. A cheapo soldering iron and some flux and solder is all you need. I suck at soldering and it was easy to do. Then I used shrink tubing to cover the connections.

ok heres somethin' i dont understand

on that link u posted earlier.
it says to use 14gugage wire or better

but northern n all u r sayin' to use 10 guage.

u people r confusin' me
can someone tell me wich one to buy as i am goin' to hardware store 2morrow

As the gauge number decreases, the wire gets thicker, and thus better.

The official Swiftech TEC instructions call for 14 guage. I used bigger 12 guage wire (as seen in the photo). 10 guage is probably even better...but it seems like overkill.

Peltier:
Red to the V+
Black to the V-

From AC cord:
Green to Ground
White to N
Black to L

ok i got diz crazy idea dat waz brought up sort of from my crazy friend.

would it make sense make it easier on the power cord to run 2 power cords to the power supply?
or would that just increase the amount of electricity goin' to it?

i figure havin' 2 cords goin' to power supply will split the job as like dual cpus

Word of warning. prob not as much of a prob for those in USA as in UK but remember to set the voltage of the meanwell to either 130V-AC or 240V-AC.

Mine was set for 130V-AC when i turned it on here in uk and it exploded!
