Slower system resources???

i heard from someone at school that running msn or norton or something all the time like overnight, will eventually waste away your system resources...like permanent slowing down of the computer... is this true? and if so, would that mean considering SETI useslike 97% of my system resources, that it would do that too? thx

I don't think they are degraded permanently. True, if your computer is up for an extremely long time without restarting your resources will be used more and more, but no, not permanently.
