Hey all...

Getting a strange error... I suppose I corrupted the HD or my XP install just died. The error says:

The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\UxTheme.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I suppose I'll do that. I'm just wondering though, what are some signs of HD corruption, and is this problem caused by HD corruption? I was only running the PCI bus 1MHz out of spec with my WD 80GB 2MB buffer.

Hi Drake,

I have never seen that particular error.

Is this a clean install?
Is this an upgrade? If so, from what OS?
Have you rebooted in installation and let it install again?

Bah, after some tweaking and working in the DOS I so loathe, I got it back up and running.

I just extracted the UxTheme.dl_ from the XP disc and replaced it. Unsurprisingly my theme is messed up. I have the classic taskbar and can't figger out how to change it back :(

Arrr!

When I got the new DLL it was reported as a later version (x.2800.x.x) than mine. I had high hopes.

but no, nothing has changed.

Very strange...

Probably version from SP1.

Did repair not work? It should have repaired/replaced the faulty .dll.

Hi Drake,

I will find one of my systems tomorrow that is running XP, without the SP1 and resend the .dll to you.
That will be the correct version and you will be fine.
