You can try Dremel.

If not Sears and Black & Decker makes clones.

Drake

Dremel started it and everything else is a clone. Not that they're bad, not at all.

This (http://www.dremel.com/html/home_fr.html) is the dremel that most people have. Adjustable speeds, etc. Works wonders for cutting cases.

I would recommend the flex-shaft attachment, though.

Drake

That'd work, but I prefer sticking with brand names. You get what you pay for...

that a good price for it?

would that b sufficent in cuttin' holes in my case?

Drake

Of course it'd slice your case. If you're only doing a few windows, that should be sufficient.

I've yet to take my dremel to my case, so I don't know what cutting wheels to use and whatnot. I suppose reinforced something or other.

I can't tell clearly from the link above... but if that is a cordless, don't get it. All I've heard about cordless is bad.

I've heard good things about #426, but nothing about the rest.

01-04-2003, 06:59 PM

If you have a mandrel, yes.

You got a great kit there man, I bought that for my sis for Xmas and wish I did for myself. You can still easily buy discs for that, and if not, I can send em cause I have plenty (haven't done too much steel/aluminum yet)

Drake
01-05-2003, 02:10 AM
We got the rotary saw dremel. It's an extra few amps so it should have an advantage over the multipro. Both'll get the job done, though :D.

Hey Gabe, watch your back :2guns: I'm bound to out-fold you one of these days.

k thanx hehe
got shipped yestaday. so should arrive tuesday, wed latest. via usps priority :-). but i'll need to find somethin' to play wit it on. b4 actually going to my case wit it. lol. especially a 250 buck case hehe. n no not gon spend dat much on case. but i still wonder y da dragon is cheaper than the matrix even though same specs cept the front design is different.

neways
Gabriel, do u know if the 3966-02 kit comes wit some wheels and mandals to cut wit?

Drake
01-05-2003, 03:20 AM
I imaging the Dragon is cheaper because it has one less markup. It goes from whoever makes the case, to you. The Matrix has to be modified by Directron.

A few months back they were the same price, though.

I think the kit comes with just some basic cutting wheels. Maybe a couple fiberglass reenforced blades, but you should see if you can pick up a tube of the FR blades as well, cause as said, you will go through them fast. Also, what I did for practice was I bought just a 2' x 2' piece of sheet metal and a 1' x 1' sheet of 1/8" plexi to mess around with. I made a mess of it at first, but by the end, was runnin pretty smoothly. Still haven't mustered the will to attempt my case yet.

And Drake, I see you comin, but I will try to keep up ;)

question

ok there are so many different kind of cut-off wheels.
which would be good to cut case steel/aluminum

#409 15/16 Cut-Off Wheels
#420 15/16 Heavy-Duty Cut-Off Wheels
#426 1-1/4 Fiberglass-Reinforced Cut-Off Wheels
#456 1 1/2" cut off wheels

would ne of those listed b useful. if so could ya lemme know.
i dont know nothin' bout these tools. i'm just a computer geek dont know bout power tools
thanx for ya help

Drake

426 is what most people use, I believe. 456 is just the same thing in a bigger size.

soccrstar
01-05-2003, 07:41 PM
oh ok
so i dont have to bother gettin' the 456?

Drake

If you don't need the bigger size, no.

sup.
got my dremel today
its sweet.

dremel multipro 3966-02
comes wit alot of stuff

i got a old case here. that i'm cuttin' apart. pretendin' is my case

for first time user i'm pretty good.

i got a 120mm gril here and i drew it on the old case. n now i'm cutting

the cut-off wheel finishes FAST. cuttin' a square within the circle. and than gon try n go on da line.

the thing finished fast. the cut-off wheel. sheesh. i guess thats the emery material or wateva.

does the fiberglass one finish quick like dat? didnt evne do half the circle.

P.S. the very first time i used it earlier today. one of the snapped into two while i waz playin' wit it. :-/

the cut-off wheels that i'm usin is #409 i guess that is for like after u cut the hole but not to do da entire hole. i ordered some #456 and #426 (fiberglass) da 456 isnt fiberglass. that should come wed. along wit my case. by than i should b a novice. i'm getting good with this.

i got me a new hobby :2guns:

at first since i waz new i left it at speed 2 but that does nothing to cut steel. dan i slowly kept putting it higher n higher. til i finally reached 10.

the book says speed 10 for steel/aluminum

omfg this thing breaks so easily

my god.

fiberglass does that break/wear out easily?

would i b able to cut a 120mm blow hole wit one of 'em?

soccrstar
01-06-2003, 02:00 PM
Yay
the screw hole is good :-D
i just put in a fan grill wit a fan
the fan is nicely stuck in it :-)
success

how all i need now is some reinforced fiberglass cut-off wheels
and i'm good to go.
the cut-off wheels that kit comes wit r very small #409 and finish very quickly.

right now
drillin' 2nd hole for screw

Yeah I went through 10 of the #409s when I did the dolphin.

Make sure you have goggles on because they will shatter in your face.

What did you use for the screw hole?

it turns out that it was my fault that they kept breakin'
i now got the hang of the dremel. none is breaking AND its not wearin' out as fan. i can do 1 1/2 to 2 80mm holes wit it now.
just needed to tame the beast :2guns:

i'm doin' a 80mm blow hole on a test case right now. already done a 120mm one with screw holes. the screws screw in nicely in it and fan sticks great.

i went from newbie to intermediate in 5hrs lol

oh i'm usin' da mandale that came wit the dremel.
it came wit the screw on top in the manrale or wateva its called.

i'm doin' da finishin' touches on the 80mm hole. than gon sand the edges.

this dremel kit is sweet. has everything u can imagine 135 pieces of stuff lol
