Hello all,
Im in a nother phase of my liquid cooled project (bah its taking forever) and i noticed that the standoffs used to attach my waterblock (Danger Den Maze 3) to the motherboard came loose. Is this normal?? and if so how could i prevent it. Thanks

Using Swifty Standoffs?

I dont use standoffs anymore for that problem. They always come loose. Ive even tried superglue, epoxy, locking nuts, they allways come loose.

so then what do you use instead... i just saw a like universal mount thingy at overclockers hideout i might give that a try. it looks like it would work well.

I just use long bolts and nuts. See my pictures in the gallery or the reviews.

I don't know what your setup consists of, but Nylock nuts wont come undone in a hurry.(nuts with nylon inserts, if they are not called that where you are) Wont work with plastic bolts though.

Locktite is a paste product that can be used to secure nuts tight. But its tricky to get right. You can bond things quite permanently with it.

Hope some of that helps. :)

I've had nylock nuts come off at bad times. Not in computers but I've had them back off on my skateboard at very critical times (like when landing a 10 stair ollie :( )

I'm using the studs that came with my alpha pal8045 but I can't take the waterblock off without one loosing up on me. I'm gonna use the nuts and bolts setup on my next box.

I insert the bolt through the bottom of the board so the stem sticks up out of the top of the board. I send a nut down the stem and secure the bolt. I use a fair amount of pressure, but not enough to damage the board. The nuts only come loose once in a while, but i never have to worry about nuts falling off behind the motherboard, and I can just snug the nuts down by turning the stems, dont have to remove the motherboard or anything.

I havent found anything yet that prevents bolts from coming undone.

plenty of loctite would keep it secure. (This stuff http://www.loctite.com/catalog/category1.html?ProductLine=10 )

Most of you probly know about it. I have permanently secured a few things with it before, despite the best of intention.

failing that, there's allways lockwire.

just whip out the dremel or equiv, and drill through the bolt snug to the nut, Or for optimal results, just go through the nut and bolt together. Slip some stainless lockwire through, and its not going anywhere.

It works for aircraft, motorsport, military. It would seem quite a mission though for a pc. probably overkill.:2guns:

yea fara ive had that problem with my board too but not at that bad of a time. the worst problem like that i ever had was when the screws of the front binding of my snowbard backed off and when i went to do a 360 off this nice sized kicker my foot rotated.... not fun at all. ive been talkin to the one teachet at my school and hes going to give me a hand designing a securing mechanism for the water block that uses the zif tabs. hopefully that will go well
