I changed the processor in my main rig from the 1600+ to a 1700+ tbred and now I get random reboots. I flashed the bios to the newest one and that didn't help.

I was kind of thinking that, it's only a 300w POS

See what your 12v rail is... if it's abnormal then the PSU may be to blame.

12v rail is at 12.23

Hrm...I'm running a generic 300W PS and I have an 1800 oc'd to 1900+, 1 gig ddr, 2 hd's, burner, dvd rom, ati 7500 aiw, SB audigy, ect ect ect :dunno:

might not be... but still possible. Not all generics are created equal.... post up the individual amperage outputs of each rail (3.3V, 5V, 12V). I was just looking into this for my new proccy.... it seems a safe bet is 30A, 30A, 15A+
let us know!

I think I will just go to bed, and try to find a real power supply in the morning. :(

I was running my 2100+ with 2 HDD's, CDRW and a few other misc things (like USB devices) off a 235W PSU until recently. Didn't seem to cause any trouble.

The PSU is always a good place to start looking when trying to cure the random reboot issue.
Also...what overclock are you running? And what core and mem voltages?
SleepO

Not overclocked at all right now, core is a 1.53v and mem is at 2.70v. The reeboots also happen more often if I am playing UT2003, about 5 minutes into the game. Also looks like I have to drive 2 hours just to find a powersuppply with an actual brand name on it.

Hi Sleep0,
Call me silly, but after it crashing when playing UT makes me think of a heat issue.
It takes a few minutes for the heat to raise, so might check temps of new CPU.
This has happened to me in the past, and temps were the cause.
Just a thought.
Take care..........

I thought the same thing Lee but with SETI running it stays at 38 C, and there are no sides on the case right now.

Perhaps the sensor isn't calibrated properly.
Touch the HSF. At 38C you shouldn't be able to feel any heat. My 55C proccy feels just mildly warm. If it burns you, then you know it's heat.

nope HS is nice and cool, but I think I narrowed it down to the video card. I got a couple of funny screens so I dropped the latest Nvidia drivers and went back to some olders ones and everthing seems fine now.

Do you have a Creative sound card? I know I read or heard somewhere
that the sound card was crashing the system when playing games.
But I'm not sure what they did to fix the problem.

nope no creative sound card just a cheap $15 c-media card. I am on my way to the plant to get my work computer more updates when I get back.

Good point Synth.
The reboot could be Win XP auto rebooting after a crash.

Thanks for everyones help :D I picked up a 400w powersupply, didn't help. Swapped out the video card for the old radeon 7000 no problems anymore. I guess I am in the market for a new video card any suggestions?

If you've got a spare $200 sitting around, Radeon 9500 Pro. Period.
If you're into overclocking, I'd just be patient and wait for something to come out that you don't have to flash your video BIOS to use.
If you've only $100 or less to toss into a video card, the 9000 is a great performer for that price.

I was looking at the 9500 Pro but here in town it is $400. :(
