Hmm... might give it a spin. After all, it's school break so I don't truly depend on my 'puter atm... ;)

I installed it with the Ati DX9 drivers and they are sweet.
I scored 10488 on 3dMark with my rig CPU @1967 and 188 FSB Radeon 8500 128mb Not O'clocked.

Cool - you using the cat 3.0's as well from ATI NY?
I get mid-10k's for 3dmark2001SE with my new 9500 Pro, with AMD XP@15xx Mhz and FSB at 133. I can't wait to either pick up a new 333fsb AMD or unlock this one - I think my rig would run a bit quicker. I'll dl the drivers and run 3dmark again to see what I get.

The 3.0 Cat's aren't available yet
Everyone says so, but the only ones available to me are the 2.5's. I checked the 9700 PRO and they only had 2.5 available to them too...
Download this driver bundle if you are having issues with your ATI product, including those mentioned above. ATI does not recommend unnecessary driver updates, when your graphics card is functioning properly.Heh... I just kinda think that quote is funny, seeing how Cat 2.5's raised my 3D Mark score by a few hunnert.

I downloaded both the DX9 and CAT3.0 drivers last night. I was planning on giving them a go when I began seeing so much negative comment about DX9 around the net. Many are calling this DX9 release "beta" and are complaining about bugs and such.
I think I may give them a try tonight anyway. I just do not want to hose my system just before Xmas.

I'm in the opposite camp - Xmas is the only time I could hose my system, as I'll need it for sure once school starts up again. Just DL'd both DX9 and the 3.0's and I"m going to try them.

Hmm... appear to have nabbed the complete SDK package @ 222MB. Guess I'll go look for the regular version. Would installing the SDK hurt anything? It's at the link that RAge3d.com suggested.

Hi Spec,
Did smoke come out of your system?
No, then it is installed. :p

Woot! Gained roughly 500-700 points in 3dmarkSE. (Edit: this was gained through a combination of the new Cats+DX9.)
Thanks for the links Lee. Guess I'll have to put in some game time to see the real-world implications of this stuff.

Nah, I never burn my systems, just blow 'em up. No smoke, only flying fragments lol... (I blew a hole clean through my first CPU that I tried to install - I mean, you could literally see daylight right through the PCB by the core! )

DX9 really disappointed me.
Here's DX8 and Cat 2.5's (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5334266) and overclocked (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5389191).
Here's DX9 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5399935), DX9 and Cat 3.0's (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5400013), and overclocked (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5400574).

Hi Drake,
Out of hundreds of folks that I know that have DX9, you are the only one, that I know of, that is not happy with it.
Sorry that you are disappointed, it is a great addition to the media world.
Take care........

Not sure why you might be disappointed. DX9 and the CAT3 are about features...not speed. Most users I see break even or lose a little performance with the DX9 and CAT3 combo from a sheer FPS perspective. But...wait until the DX9 games come out and you'll know why they are here. Doom III will be sweet.
BTW, some of those new ATI DX9 demos are pretty cool. Things are getting pretty close to real time Toy Story graphics.

Heh, after seeing everyone get a few hundred point increases in their scores and then to see mine drop... well, a guy ain't gunna be pleased :D. In any case, would not having a DX9 card impact my DX9 performance?

How is Cat3s and DX9 working with UT2003? Has it fixed any of the radeon visual defects?

I'm with Drake on this one....I'm unaware of any troubles with UT2003 and ATI hardware.
Although I had no troubles with UT2003 using DX8.1 and CAT2.5 combo, I can also report no issues with the DX9 and CAT3. I've only played for an hour or so though.

I'm running UT2003 maxed out @ 1024x768 currently with the DX9/Cat3.0 setup, and it has run awesome so far.

My Ati 7500 and 8500DV display artifacts. Reflections on water (Antalus), water reflections on walls (Curse3), bad light blinking on one of the snowy maps. I also had problems with triangles sometimes showing up on ground textures before I switched to Omega Plutonium. The artifacts are minimal, but you'll notice them the more you play. The patches fixed some of the reflection problems (these were known bugs with some older ATI hardware).

There were problems with Ati and UT2003 when it was Demo and early release but it was fixed with the 2.3 drivers and one of the UT patches.

Oh...okay. I guess I didn't run into these issues myself because I'm not a big player of UT3002 and didn't run the early stuff too much:)

okay all i'm seeing here is a lot of ATI users :) Is it worth it for me to install dx9 for my lil ti4200? (nice spanking new Gainward 8xAGP version, higher default clocks, but otherwise pointless on my mobo ;) ).

Can't do any harm, and perchance it does, just uninstall it.
lechumbl
12-23-2002, 01:14 AM
Hi Drake,
The Microsoft site says that the DX9 CANNOT be uninstalled, so once you install it, you are with it, for better or worse.
BEFORE you install it, make sure you have a CURRENT image or backup.
Then install away, and if if is a problem, then just restore the image or backup.
Take care........

This (http://www.guru3d.com/files/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=522) is what I was referring to.
[Edit] Bah, I bothered to read what was said about it and it only worked for one person :(.
Nevermind then.

Hi JaFFa,
When MS says there is no uninstall, it is meant for the mass of non computer literate folk around the world.
There are ways to circumvent it or anything else.
The statement was made for that reason.
Take care............
PS........:D :D WELCOME :D :D back, stranger. Good to have you posting again.
