Howdy man, what's up? I see you're playing through Metriod. :2guns: I just picked up a GC this week along with Metriod Prime because of the 25$ off deal they had on cubes. :cool3: I'm thinking about maybe picking up another title and was wondering if you had any recommendations?

btw - dang, Metriod rocks! Haven't played it too much (writing finals this week) but looks to be one of the best if not the best console game out this year...

Metroid Prime is the best game I've ever played. Just wait until you get in to it :)

Star Fox Adventures and Super Mario are pretty good. Uhm...really depends on what kind of games you like :) Monkey ball and mario party are good fun with the girl species to share in. I have a couple Sonic games. Mx Superfly is good, Tony Hawk 4 is smoooth on the cube. I dunno. Its a good little system, I just wish Nintendo would focus more on the adults and less on the kids.

I still have to get a PS2 one of these years hehe.

Heh, forget PS2. I bought an Xbox and never looked back.

Though the PS2 may have a larger fan base, and a greater selection of games, the Xbox is reigning supreme in the nexgen cosole wars. SOCOM is good, Halo is better. Single player and multiplayer, online or otherwise. Dead or Alive 3 just owns as a fighting game, and if scantily-clad ladies aren't a priority then Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance should put all of your wants of fighting games out of mind. If fast and furious FPS's are your thing, then Unreal Championship will suit you perfectly. While it may be devoid of a mouse and keyboard, the controls suit the game and the transistion should be relatively painless for any hardcore computer gamer.

The only bad things I can think about the Xbox are:
1) If you get one made before 2002, return it from where you bought it claiming defectivities and ask for a new one. The new motherboard for the Xbox is more stable than the old one, even though the new one offers no room for modchips.

2)The friggin' DVD playback kit costs $30!

Besides, I'd like to see one person mod a PS2 as good as this Xbox:

Thanks for the reply Player0. :) I'm a Mario fan, even though I never owned an N64 (imho even though that system had some great games (Zelda, Goldeneye, SMB64), it was the worst system in terms of hardware vs. when it came out in the recent past). So, SMS is on my list. :cool3: Hmm, Tony Hawk 4 sounds like a good pick-up then! I'd read reviews that said the GC version suffered from some "stutter" but didn't know if they were pulling my leg or not. SMB2 also looked good.

I don't know if you played Rayman 2 before on the Dreamcast etc., but I am very, very eagerly awaiting the new Rayman 3 game on GC! :spin: Rayman 2 is one of the best games ever made. I would say that is the one game that first convinced me someone's imagination could be rendered near-faithfully on the screen.

Personally speaking, I've rarely played a more addictive game than Monkeyball (only FF7 and Gran Turismo spring to mind) so if you've got a/getting a cube monkey ball is a pure gameplay title.

I absolutely love my cube, and having played PS2 (pah) and XBOX I really can't see my opinion changing, it's a pure gameplay machine. P0 is right though, nintendo do need to focus away from the kiddie thing quite so much.

I have the N64, and you're right, it was definitely a seriously ill designed game system. It wasn't loaded with great games...but it really DID have some great games. I dont think people give it enough credit :) I mean, first off, you have all the Nintendo stand bys...Mario 64 was one of the most ground breaking games ever. StarFox 64 was great for the fans. Smash Bros came out and was amazing. Mario Party was very nice as well. Then you have the old Mario Kart 64 standby. I remember playing that all night in college ;) You had Turok and Bond and Zeldas. And then Rare had Banjo Kazooie which was AWESOME. Conker was hilarious and a refreshing adult game.

It seriously lacked the presence of any real racing game, RPGs, or fighting games though. Maybe a total lack of any decent sports games all together (which I dont usually play). And thats really Nintendos downfall, even today. Its relying too heavily on old standbys and the Nintendo type games, and not doing much to please the developers. That and the N64 had no CD-Rom, and the controllers are hideous. Althogh...I have to admit....back in those days (fighting the PS1), I often liked the fact that I didnt have to wait for games to load, which sometimes took forever on the PS1. The graphics looked better on the N64 too, for it's time. But Sony dominated because it went where it needed to be...CD-Rom. Hell, PS1 was half-designed by Nintendo anyway.

It's frustrating as a Nintendo fan to see them making such obvious mistakes though. They canned Rare, which saved their asses on the N64 and brought QUALITY games. Rare was canned because they took too long making games. I guess Nintendo wants us to buy lots and lots of crappy games. Metroid Prime was done right, thankfully because it was taken out of the hands of Nintendo, who seem to 'kiddify' everything. They are extremely out of touch with the market, which is guys our ages. The GameCube technology is great, and the damn thing was done cheap. Games seem to be cheaper than the old N64 days too. I think Nintendo will be shifting it's paradigm soon. They have Capcom back. Square is back, although not sure what they are going to do. Sony and Xbox are looking to go online, which is okay. I think theres a market there, but they won't touch PC games. I don't think Nintendo has to go the online route. They just have to go back to their SNES day mentalities. The earlier days when they had cool music in games ;) Before Paper Mario and Pikachu.

GameBoy Advance is nice too...have you guys seen that thing yet that plugs in to the bottom of the cube? Lets you play ALL GB and GBA games right from the cube? Of course...with the awkward controller (but like the N64 beast, it grows on you). Playing Street Fighter with that damn controller is really hard. With any Analog pad really. Using that tiny d-pad hurts like hell ;) Well, im totally getting that GameBoy adapter when it comes out. LOTS of good games on the GBA, just I don't want a handheld that i cant see in dim light.

One thing I didn't like about the N64 though was the Anti-Aliasing! Argh! Made everything look blurry and washed-out. In this, I actually thought the PS1 graphics looked better, because the edges were defined. The N64 just didn't have enough power to do AA properly, and the fact they had to release a RAM upgrade for the N64 to get good graphics out of it show this I think.

Yeah, I'm definitely awaiting the GBA adaptor; I actually own a GBA now and was thinking about having an afterburner kit installed (I've never soldered, prolly easy enough but better to have someone do it than for me to be out the 70$ I paid for my GBA!!)

Castlevania for GBA is pretty cool; would be better on a TV because it's so dark on GBA. Also, Rayman Advance is good, and all the old-school SNES games? Awesome.... Can you imagine if they released FFVI for GBA? They'd sell shiploads of units...

p.s. - Square is doing "Final Fantasy Chronicles" for GC and the current rumor now is that you will need a GBA to be able to play the game.

Hehe, yeah...they had some weak AA on that thing. Im not sure many of the newer games used it. The only thing worse was the FOG!! OMG...made Turok quite interesting ;) Yeah, the memory upgrade worked well. It enabled many of the games to use High-Res (640x480 i think) mode. Really helped on Zelda and stuff too. At least they released one...those kind of add ons are sometimes not bothered with. Back in 95 when the N64 came out tho...2m of video ram was really quite a lot. I didnt get an 8m video card back until earlier 98 (Rendition Verite v2200), and it was top of the line then. N64 graphics look hideous now. PS1 to me as well. Actually, PS2 graphics aren't generally that gorgeous either. Cube and Xbox look amazing. Cube AA is SOO good. Metroid Prime is beautiful, and smooth! 60FPS! I cant beleive it...especially with the size of the worlds and the bad guys!

SNES is pretty much my favorite classic system, which is why I really want the GBA emulator. ALl the old games are being retrofitted for it :)

Of course...I do have them all emulated these days. Im really dissapointed with the quality of N64 and GBA emulators right now tho. I cant complain since I dont work on them but...compared to the other emulators out there...I just havent seen anything of quality.

I still have to have a FF marathon...play the whole series one by one hehe :) I have all the games now...just need the time ;)

Yeah, when I was a kid I used to think "It would be awesome to have a job because then I can buy a lot of games to play!" However, there is simply no time lately... After grad school it will get better, though. So for now I'm just concentrating on trying to play some of the best ones.

I am very thankful that GC AA is tons better than N64 AA as well! lol...

Rented Super Monkey Ball 2 and MOHF this weekend. I think that Frontline looks superb on the Gamecube (I've played the demo for PC). The only thing is I would definitely rather play it on PC because of the controls. But, as far as looks go, I can hardly tell the difference! (And my graphics card is no slouch either. :p )

Looks like Metriod got game of the year for GC over @ Gamespy and Tony Hawk 4 was the first runner-up.

I'm awaiting Zelda for GC currently. Also, Zelda for GBA wouldn't be a bad choice - scored a whopping 94% over @ Gamespy! (Have you heard - for pre-orders, the original "Ocarina of Time" N64 game was included on the Zelda: Wind Walker disc over in the land of the rising sun! )
