Just finished my latest article on putting a pc in a toaster. Did this a while ago but only got round to finishing the write up recently.
You can read it here (http://www.liquidninjas.com/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=26).

that bottle of scotch is long gone I'm sad to say. :drinky:

I've moved on to the bottle of brandy thats just off the picture to the left ;)

Hmm PC in a coffee maker wire up the controls to some custom logic hanging off the serial port and youd have web triggerable coffee :D

Instead of a computer in a coffee maker, why not a coffee maker in a computer? (http://www.pimprig.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=72)

Hi there,
Luv the toaster

Do you think there is much scope for developing the audio towards the "Talking Toaster"? Voicerec software was pretty lame last time I looked at it, but that was 2 years ago. Maybe modern software is up to it.

If you have the time, it could be an interesting development.

cheers

Drake that link doesn't work for me but I have seen the coffee maker in a computer. Really cool mod it was one of the reasons I thought of building a computer into a household appliance ;)

unacceptable_risk I have yet to see any really reliable voice rec stuff. But Its getting better all the time so the point cant be far off where you don't have to repeat yourself several times.
I did do some work in the field of pattern recognition at uni so did see some of the latest research, and some of the new aproaches looked promising.

Getting the toaster to speak back is also some what variable but definately possible I saw the other day a standalone text to speech processor that was being produced. Been a while since I played with any of that stuff it did used to sound a bit like someone who was very drunk trying to sing karaoke. I have seen some interesting work with an artificial larynx wired up to a neural net that looked like an interesting approach to the speech syntesis problem.

Might have a play with the idea of a voice interface at some point its something that would be quite cool :D Very 2001

Open the pod bay doors hal ;)
