I've gotten mandrake 9.0 to install on my server so I can start playing with it. A day later I hooked it up to my TV and now I can't play with Linux 'cause the TV out doesn't like Linux.

Ok, no problem I have a k6-2 and a PCChips board that has linux drivers and a whole bunch of extra PC100 SDRAM.

Or so I thought.......

I started to install Mandrake 8.2 on Fri night. Gave up after it froze 8 times at assorted times during install. Now it's Sunday and I'm trying Mandrake 9.0. Six hours later I'm still cursing at the damn thing cause it's getting real close to finishing the install and it freezes. This is where I notice a burning electronics smell and see that the fan on the CPU is not spining. More curses because of burnt fingers. It's now cooled down and I'm thinking maybe that's why it was freezing. On a hunch I put in a copy of Corel Linux. After two times it installed and I have Linux running.

Left it running all night. I couldn't connect to the internet with Corel. I figured Corel loaded and worked let me try Mandrake again.

Return to top of post. :flust:

Mandrake 9.0 gets within 2 minutes of finishing and freezes. Now I've changed memory and the CD drive but the same thing keeps happening with 9.0 and 8.2.

I'd chalk it up to the P.O.S. PC chips board (I have two on my wall that went tits up) but it runs XP fine and 2k fine. I'm at a loss.

Is it that Mandrake just doesn't like my config? I'm a complete :newbie: to Linux so I have no idea of my options. I really want to have this box running Mandrake just so I can learn Linux but I'm also thinking of throwing it out the window into the snow.

I know not a lot here know Linux but if anyone can lend a hand I'll make sure you don't get coal in you stocking this year ;)
