4 computers networked together A, B, C, D
you want to send data from A to C
Hub sends data out to all puters till it finds the one it needs
Switch is smart sends data directly to C thus improving network congestion
That simple enough?

that was what i understood.
computer A sends data to computer B at 100mbits, at the same time computer C can send data to computer D at 100mbits.
if that was a hub, computer A could only send data at 50mbits to computer B, whilst computer C was sending data at 50 mbits to computer D, giving 100mbits.
if thats right, i thought there was more to it than that

Thats close MrP, except with a Hub, only two PCs can talk at any one time.
There are other small little advantages to switches, but you got the basic idea.
