View Full Version : water cooling in the UK
ok,
just got a machine in at work with what i think is the perfect case for water cooling.
its a full size ATX case, and th power supply is about a third of the way down the case. the rest is just taken up with a 92mm fan hole.
so what i am thinking is, somehow get this machine into a nice cheap case, and use the case myself. it aint no looker, but it is big.
next then is what do i put in it????
i guess i will need a decent rad, fan, pump, cables and water block.
so, you tell me guys, whats decent, and whats avalible in the uk? i dont mind some noise with this, but i dont want to be deafened, also, i want to try and do this fairly cheaply. dont get me wrong though, i dont want cheap nasty crap, i just dont want to be spends £000's on each bit.
the only other thing is that i would like this to be fairly easy to fit and remove, and very reliable as it might get moved quite alot.
i await your thoughts.

"i just dont want to be spends £000's on each bit."
Sounds pretty cheap to me ;)
Although I would have no problems recommending parts for you, I have NO idea whats available over there.
Radiators: Black Ice or any cube style. A small car heater core will work good too, although will require more work for mounting.
Pumps: Eheim. The best. DannerMag drives are pretty good too. You want at least 200GPH. What is that...800LPH. You dont want anything less.
Waterblock. Maze2/3 if you can get it. Maze2/3 even if you cant get it. Swifty MCW462 is another alternative. Not even worth looking at much else.
Tubing, connectors, resevoir...check your local hardware store. Dont forget hose clamps, velcro, silicone glue. Create a 1/2" ID tubed system if you can. The benefits are much better than 3/8".
Mouting everything in the full tower case is quite easy. Just velcro the tank and pump to the bottom. Mounting the radiator is tricky. The easiest way is to mount one or two 120mm fans to the radiator, and then make a 120mm blowhole in the case. Mount the 120mm fan to the blowhole and the radiator to the fan.
You want LOTS of fresh air going to the radiator, and you want to exhuast the heat outside of the case, not inwards. I suggest a medium powered 120mm fan...60-90CFM, for best cooling versus noise results. Or get a 140CFM fan and get a fan controller for it, so you can turn it up or down. Using two smaller fans is better still, one pushing one pulling air.

Ah...didnt know he did watercooling.
Hes got the AquaCoil and the Eheim 1250. Good. Dont like any of his waterblocks though. The Z4 is okay. The MCW462-U is good, but doesnt take 1/2" fittings, so its not a good paring with the AC and the Eheim (both of which are 1/2" beasts).
If he can get the new Swiftech MCW462 version with the 1/2" fittings (and he should hint hint kms!) then get that :)
what about these
