Hi Wes,

Sorry to jump in here liz, but.

It depends on what speed CPU you have.
AMD and Intel 500's or so take approximately 28 to 30 hours a unit.

My XP1800+, overclocked to XP2200+ runs a unit every 3 1/2 hours or so.

The faster the CPU the quicker the units produced.

Also the software used helps a little.

I know I use SETIDriver.exe and the cmd prog on SETI website.

It allows you to queue units and store results, sending them when you want or automatically.

Take care........

its ok I dont mind people helping out

we need some of your details like

* what machine you are running it on?
* do you run a screen saver over night on it?
* what do you see on the screen when seti is running - is it pretty pictures? or a dos box or a blue mushroom (can you tell I lecture basic IT)
* are you only running seti in the background - ie no other DC projects

and yes I do have a lamp to shine in your eyes for a more indepth interrogation

Liz will help you dont you worry :)

I have a PIII 500 box here...it does units in 13 hours. My XP2100+ non-OC box does them in 3.5hours...the other tbird boxes are 3.5-4.5 hours/wu.

well.. oviously i'am doing something wrong.
My system is a 850 Duron o/c to 1.06Ghz, 512Mb PC-133 ram..etc etc... I run seti in the background...constantly. It's the pretty pictures screen.. Hook me up here. My parents box is the same screen...but it's a PII 400 with 256mb pc-100. I think that box is about 61% done and it's been cooking for oh yah 65hrs... Any other info needed?

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooo not the pretty pictures

you need two things the command line client from http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.html

and install that

you will also need seti driver from http://www.wakeassoc.com/setidriver/

going to write some destructions over the weekend

first step down load the 2 things and install the commnadline in a directory - then install the setidriver -

the important bits in setidriver are no of processors - set at 1
the cache set at 10 to start - you really need to keep a weeks worth of units in there - but we will fine tune this later
if you are on dial up leave autotransmit unticked

then click on transmit - the driver will connect to Berkley - and you will be asked a question - give it your email address - then you should get some units down loaded.

Post again and let me know how it is going

the next thing I need to know how are your parents and your machine linked to the net - cos the next stage will depend on that

good luck and shout if you get stuck

Liz - Have you got WesM63 sorted yet??

By my estimates the Duron should do, sub 7hr WU's.

As for the....

Ok i did download that one and i opened it and it gave me some sort of error??

Your mission should you choose to accept it...

I'm assuming you tried to open the "i386-winnt-cmdline.exe" - All you need to do with it is, drop the .exe file into the same directory as the SetiDriver (Blue Dish) and then click on the SetiDriver icon - it's SetiDriver that runs the cmdline client for you.

When you start the SetiDriver program (as Liz said) select Maximum Processes to '1' and at least '1' (start at a low figure and then after a day or two plan a weeks worth, I'd estimate around 25 to 30) in the desired cache size... the little blue dish icon will now be RED and upside down (not running and no units) connect your dial up access and press the 'transmit' button. When you connect to the server - select option 2 and input your e-mail (sorry liz I'm repeating you again! :)) address then you should see a download begin at 10K... 20K... upto and over 330 (units vary slightly). SetDriver will now start to crunch that unit - if your cache is set to more than 1 - it will continue downloading on dos boxes.

If the icon is blue - the cache download is complete and its processing (put a tick in the 'use setidriver' box to see the units progress.) If the icon is yellow - its still processing but requires a connection to either send a completed unit and/or download another one to cache.

I've used SetSpy in conjunction with SetiDriver... but lets get a WU done in under 10hrs first :D Your PII 400 will be hitting around 16hrs a unit once set up on the same software...

Good luck WesM63 - this message will self destruct in 5 seconds.....:eatbomb:

Exactly where did you get the client from (liz's posted link??? and try the version 3.07 I've not tried this one yet!!!) Cos it looks like your on a version for win 95 - that requires a winsock2 upgrade... very odd!!! You did say you were 98SE

This link that should do the trick... (firstly bin the client you have) and go to here (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/unix.html) scroll down about 1/2 of the page into the big table and find the i386-winnt-cmdline.exe: 3.03 either one of the downloads links still worked OK last time I tried ...in fact I'll try and post the exact ftp link.... Try this (ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/setiathome/setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe) If your running 98SE this is all you need - if your on 95 then the winsock upgrade is in the first table on the page - highlighted as a download...

Can't really see at this point what other help I can be... unless Winsock2 is a part of 98SE that your OS load is missing - you could try downloading it... here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/bin/W95ws2setup.exe) but I've never tried to install the 95 sevice stuff into 98 - never needed too!

edit - PS I've just tried both of the posted links to the FTP downloads - phew they work ;)
