Ok as you know i bout the gigabyte GA-DX7 with ddr so now i need some pc2100 ddr ram. Since i'am on a limited buget...i need some good cheap ram. The local computer store said $59 for 256mb with lifetime warrenty...hehe but that won't last long :D So i consider some Mushkin high performace, it's $89 thou. Dose anyone know where they sell cheap good ram or dose someone out here have some they'd like to get rid of cheap? Thanks for the help.

Hi Wes,
If you are overclocking, then good RAM is a must. The extra few dollars you spend is WELL worth it.
If you are building a system to SETI, or such, then lesser memory is acceptable.
Heck, I run generic PC2100 and I am not doing too bad on speed.
BUT, I could do better with good RAM.
Take care.......

If you want good quality memory at a reasonable price, I suggest you look at the Crucial PC2100. It overclocks well, and seems to have great compability with many systems.
Right now a stick of 256 non registered, non ECC is about $75 and includes free 2 day shipping.
Check it here (http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Giga-Byte%2BMotherboards&model=GA-7DX&submit=Go)
If you plan on no overclocking at all (the GA-7DX is kinda limited in that department anyway), you may get away with some good generic stuff. Just make sure there is a good return policy in case it has issues.

I've gotten lucky with generic the last 2 times I bought some. I ended up with micron chips so I was pretty happy but I agree with mdzcpa. Go with crucial it's cheaper than I can buy at best buy and it will work in your board. My crucial 2100 will do 150+ with all settings maxed.

Ive had bad luck with Crucial DDR, and last i checked, it wasnt much cheaper than Corsair, which is my current choice :)

Depends on which Crucial and which Corsair you may be referring to.
The Corsair "value select" PC2100 can be found cheaper than the Crucial PC2100, while the Corsair PC2100 is about the same price. Obviously, the PC3000 and PC3200 is much more expensive;)
As far as good luck or bad, I base my suggestion off of many early DDR adopters who had tremendous success with the Crucial PC2100. It was the stuff OPP, ddtung, myslef, and and a bunch of others were using when the AMD761 mobos were the rage. I've never had a lick of trouble with it. Nor have most I've seen on the forums. But, as usual, everyone's mileage varies.:)
Now, when it comes to the PC2700 stuff, the Crucial just doesn't cut it...but that's another sory.

Actually I would recomend Samsung pc2700 you can get it for $75 at Newegg.com and it will do ~190 max timings. This is good because if you decide to get a new mobo later you will know your Ram has plenty of headroom.

If the pc2700 is in the same $$ ballpark as the pc2100, get the 2700.

Mike,
Ive used crucial lots, their PC133 stuff is great, and was really cheap. But I migrated to DDR at work, and I just had problems with Crucial sticks. Two were DOA. Some of them didnt like sharing a mobo with other ram sticks.
Corsair didnt have these same problems for me. Im of course talking about non overclocked work machines...a great variety of hardware. The corsair just seems to have the better compatibility.
Maybe the newer stuff is okay tho.

WesM63,
NY and Fara have a good point. The Samsung PC2700 is good stuff indeed. And it certainly can be run at PC2100 speeds. Just make sure you get the real Samsung sticks manufactured by Samsung, not just the Samsung mem chips. You need the actual memory sticks made by Samsung which has Samsung chips on thier own PCB. I beleive the stuff at Newegg that NY refers to is the real stuff.
P0:
Our personal experiences speaks volumes on what we recommend no doubt. With the kind of experiences you have had with the Crucial DDR I understand your advice.:)

Thanks Mike,
I guess you learn something new everyday...i did'nt think you could run pc2700 @pc2100 speeds. I knew you could run memory faster (o/c). Well i think i might just get some samsung pc2700. thanks again guys.

wes,
i think you will find that most stuff like memory, hard disks, chips etc will all run happily at slower speeds.
IE ata-133 drives will happily run at ata-33
DDR 3200 memory will happily run at DDR1600
sure if anyone tried an XP2100+ would run at a gig or less (hmmm, under clocking, new sport!!)
toodles :xsofa:

Yes yes, about anything will run better at lower speeds.
