I wasn't sure when this day would come...but it has arrived. My main gaming rig needs a bigger PSU. I thought my 431w Enermax would last me longer than it did, but that's just not the case.

After looking at a number options (PC Power and Cooling, Enermax, Antec True Power), I decided to get the Enermax EG651 530w PSU. I had the True Power 550 a few months ago, but took it back out of the rig due to poor 5v rail. The Enermax 431w did better.

But, since I've added the TEC to the Radeon 9700, the Enermax just cannot cut it anymore. The Radeon draws a butt load of power itself. So when I out the TEC on the card I started getting random instability. As soon as I unplug the TEC...everything goes back to normal. So it is definitely the PSU.

So...my 530w PSU is on the way. Man...it just seems too wierd to need that big of a PSU. I am still used to seeing 250w PSUs everywhere at work.

Hey mike,
I finally got my 500W raidmax.. i don't know how well it's gonna do but for $69 i'am not gonna complain :)

It's nice, aluminum case, two huge clear 80mm fans.

Hey Mike, the EG651 is an older model (like the 351 and the 451 that were replaced with the 365 and the 465). They never continued with an EG665 model. Those older X51 models weren't always so happy with DDR boards. The EG651 probably will fair better, and I don't mean to jynx you or anything. Just I've always kept away from those older X51s. I had an EG451 that wouldn't run any DDR board at all :P

My PCP&C TurboCool 475 is awesome, I just hacked it last night for a full 30a on 12v rail, more than enough for the 12v tecs in my system. Its however somewhat loud (ive considered replacing the fan for a better one inside) and expensive. But its heavy as a rock, and my voltages are 100% stable no matter what.

Hey Tom, thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to put it through it's paces and let you know if it does okay.
