Windows XP Media Center Edition

An OS customized for a media computer? Wow. But can you buy it? Not yet apparantly, not unless you buy the whole system, like the new ones Alienware and HP are offering. You really wanna shell out 2g's for one though? I don't. I just added a $150 video card to a PC I already had, put some wires to the TV and Digital Cable box, and it works like a champ.

Still, the OS has me interested. Looks nice. Is it so proprietary that it wont run on other systems?

Microsoft has said that they do not plan on releasing as a stand-alone OS at this time. But the may do so in the future. But if you look around the net you can find copies of it floating around.

I wonder if i really want to have such a dedicated OS on a box? Will it still work like regular XP?
