Folding help

Hey guys,
I d/l the folding text client at work and i put in my user name and team.. and then it did a bunch of stuff and just stoped. It put a bunch of stuff on my desktop and quit. This was at work.. i up graded from a PII350 to a PIII450 w/256Mb ram today. I figured this would be a start.

Well anywase... what do i do now??

Take the command line client and drop it into a folder. Put said folder into the c: drive or anyplace you want. Run the command line, fill out the info and it will (should) benchmark the system then d/l a WU and you should be on your way.

The stuff on the desktop is the .cfg files and stuff that the command line makes upon initial start-up.

It benchmarked and d/l a woot and then it ended with some names and just quit. Is that right? I dunno i closed it cause i got mad..

how did you know it was not doing anything? Did you check task manager?

It probally said something about copyrights and had two pepole's names, one looking indian? You may have not waited long enough for the first line to appear. I did the same the first time I ran folding. :)

Throw it on a box and wait a little. Something should show. Check task mgr and see if the CPU's @100%. If it is let it chill for a bit. :cool3:

Fara is right on point here:) You gotta give it some time and then you will see some activity of work being completed in the DOS box. It says something like "Finished a frame <1>" and then continue on to 100 (or how many "frames" are in the work unit).

Another way to tell is that your CPU temps go way up under the load:)

I prob did'nt wait long enough.. i did'nt see any frame things mike. I'll let it set tomarrow at work while i'am d/l linux

It was running properly, you just didn't wait long enough for it to finish the first frame. I'm not sure what os you had on that computer, but if you create a folder on your c drive, then go to task scheduler and schedule it to run at start up. Then go to advanced options within task scheduler and uncheck "end if running for 72 hours", then hit apply and close. Reboot the computer and it should run in the background invisibly.:) As old as this post was, you've probably figured that out by now, just thought I'd offer up a little extra advice for ya:)

Thanx:) I've been floating around popping in and out for about the last month or two. Good to see you guys got your own folding team going. That's awesome!!! This has got to be the most noblest cause out of all the distributed computing proggies out there. I commend all the members of your team:) Good luck and may the fold be with you's ( I just had to say that:p ) Hopefully I'll be able to help you guys out with any of the questions you guys get hit with, I've seen some good ones;)

Hey lee, ive noticed in the months ive seen your posts. that the number of .'s changes occasionally?
