I got this board back from an RMA. I had already replaced it with another Epox Via 694T based motherboard. The board is brand new, in a brand new box with all the stuff (Mwave.com just shipped me a new board). I have not opened it up or anything. It sells new on Mwave.com for $69.

What I don't have is a PIII or Celeron CPU for this thing. Now, either I can sell this board to an interested party for $50, or I might be willing to buy someone's old PIII CPU. I want 700mhz or better.

I saw an article the other day on making a digital VCR out of an old PC. I have all the stuff to actually do that minus some ram and the software, and a remote control or something. So I might want to do that for myself. Might be worth me spending $80 on a CPU for.

But, I'm also short on cash so might wanna sell this thing so I can eat next week. So, if anything wants this thing for $50, shoot me a note and I'll consider the offer. Ill ship of course. I wont take too much less than $50 since its a brand new board.

OR, if you have an old PIII 600-700-800 plus you're looking to sell, let me know too. I might take it off you're hands and make me a digital VCR.

Thanks!

Nevermind, you know... I really want to make this DVR box. It will be friggin awesome. Gonna go with a Tualitin 1133a or 1200. Should run cool and not be too loud.

Project is still going to cost me $600 though. Funny, for $550, I can get a TiVo and lifetime subscription. But, mine will play DVDs/DivX cd's, music, have a larger HD, be an MP3 jukebox, have 5.1 surround, and so forth.

I dont know...maybe it's silly. Heres the inspiration:

Someone buy this board from me so I dont go blow $600 on a DVR!! :)

So yes, still for sale!

Hi NY,

I have a Matrox G550 I could easily use. But, no TV Tuner or Remote. I can get an AIW 8500 DV for $170 with the remote, tv tuner, and good video in/out. It's an expense.

HD, well I can get the 100JB for $130. That's hella cheap and will provide at least 200 hours (maybe 300-400) of recording. I would of course put the OS on it's own drive and IDE channel for performance reasons.

$80 gets me the Audigy. It has 5.1 surround support, so when I get digital cable or play DVDs... I'll have awesome sound.

I of course need some good RAM (I sold my last SDR sticks to buy food basically) , the Tualatin CPU. $75 for the software. So a $600 ish solution. I have the perfect desktop style case which just needs some painting (it, by chance, is also a Gateway case), PSU is no issue and... maybe a wireless kb/mouse.

I have 4 other computers in the house all doing other things...I really need to combine a couple.

Haha...maybe NY. I'm looking to grow my home entertainment system. I have a ton of DivX movies on cd's. Currently, I have to plug in the laptop, rig all the wiring to the TV, and it's a pain in the a$$. Okay, so it takes 5-10 minutes.

I have a DVD player which works okay, but its just slow. Takes forever to load up a DVD. I have a VCR, and like to record shows during the day when I can. I also want a 5.1 system and a onscreen TV listing.

Seem's to me that I can get rid of the DVD player, hook up this box and have some really cool things. Don't have to waste vcr tape just to record a show or something. Plus I can automatically record Simpsons or other shows I miss while im at work or something. Plus, I can record movies directly in to DivX format and burn them to CDs etc. Or copy them to the file server.

But, I still need a new couch, the 5.1 Receiver, and some new front speakers (left and right). Not to mention the PS2 that I want. Like I said, I have other PCs that could do this (still need the AIW card, but I might beable to get a cheaper one).

I dont know. I need to sleep on it. Maybe I can do this for cheaper than $600. $300 would be great. Maybe ill look in to that.

What about one of the VIA eden platforms?

I want a TV box too and I was thinking of getting one of thoes and making it work.

P.S. I may be able to get a deal on PS2's :)

Okay, I did something unlike me and went budget minded:

$120 - Radeon AIW 7500
$ 56 - Celeron2 1100mhz
$108 - WD800JB
$ 60 - Audigy (OEM)
$ 75 - Software

So $425, which isnt counting the parts I already own.

Now, the Radeon AIW seems about as cheap as its going to get for tv tuner and remote control.

The Celeron, i just don't know. I mean, this thing IS encoding DivX isn't it? So doesn't it need some real processing power to do that?

The hard drive is also hard to say. It's hard to beat the pricetag, although $20 more gives you 40 more gigs, so i would probably get the 120g model.

The audigy is another funny point. For $30 you can get a Live 5.1 which would work just fine. But the audigy sounds crisper, and since Im spending a good bit of money on a new stereo soon, is probably worth the $30 especially if this becomes my new DVD player.

In terms of everything else, the Eden is okay. I have a friend who built a box built around that. C3 is slooow though, and I already have this Soyo mobo sitting here which is definately a great, low power, low heat platform to work from.

Let me know about the PS2, im going to get one.

hey guys,
Just to let you know, the A I W 7500's are great. We have one in every room at school, paired up with 1.2g celery's not bad. I don't seem them laggin to much.

About the DVR thing i think some the guys were tryin to build one at work but the project never took off. It's based around a P4 1.7G, 256DDR 40Gig WD and a AIW 7500. Hav'nt messed with it much my self but we've done some video caputer with it and a sony ilink camera and does great work.

Im just trying to figgure out what kind of CPU power I need to record DivX.

I have a 900MHz athlon and I tried to record DivX with two different programs and the video turned out very jumpy and it skipped a few frames every few frames throughout the movie.

Also the sound was out of sync.

So I'm thinking a 1100MHz Celeron wouldn't be much different.
