Hi guys.
I just dug out my mp3 player which i havent used for a while. I installed the software (downloaded from the website to get the XP version), but every time I run it, I get the message:
"Failed to open the parallel port driver"
Any Ideas?
The MP3 player is a Saehan MpMan-F30 ( website (http://www.mpman.com) ) and I bought it about 2 and a half years ago (if that helps??!).
The system I am using is below
Thanks.

Check in the BIOS and see if you have the Parallel port disabled.

Hi DCMan,
Parallel port use 378 IO and IRQ7 by default.Check for possible IRQ conflict. You have other choices on Bios.
The other thing is: you have this modes on Parallel port: Normal, EPP, ECP and ECP+EPP.Did you try to change it?There are some devices that don't like EPP or ECP mode.Or one or other. My parallel scanner doesn't works with ECP mode.It only works with EPP.

Hey :)
I have tried different combinations of the ECP/EPP/Normal settings on the parallel port in the bios. Also, I dont have problems printing, so that makes me think its a software thing, rather than a bios thing....
Is there any way round it, or settings that I should look for in XP itself?
Thanks for the suggestions so far :)

If your paralell printer is working, it means that the paralell port is ok.You're right, it's not a bios ' fault.About XP option, hummmm.... there's no much thing to do, but take a look on system properties>Hardware>device manager>ports>com&lpt>Printer Port>Port Settings tab, but as i said if the printer is working........
Sure it's a software problem!!!!!For some reason, the software can't able to open the parallel port.
I'll try to take a little look on website for this Saehan MpMan-F30
DCMan, there's a 25-to-15pin parallel cable.Maybe the problem lies in this cable.Well, look, i don't know how this XP manager program works, is there some kind of parallel port setup on it?Did you try to search this option there?

Hi
Yeah, I thought of looking for something to do with parallel port in the program itself, but when the error occurs, the program freezes and the only thing that it will respond to is ending it through the task manager, so i cant actually get into the program to look
i'll keep trying, but if you think of anything that I might've missed - lemme know! :)
Thanks
DC :)
