The KD7-RAID has arrived in the lab. Not expecting too many changes from the KX7 offering, I was quite surprised to find a number of new features not present on the KX7. And I am not referring to the on-board sound and LAN, USB 2.0, or AGP X8 capability we all know about already. Most of these surprise items are additional options for the diehard tweaker....stuff enthusiasts will like I think.

Another interesting thing is that this mobo came as a version 1.1. That's pretty interesting for a motherboard fresh out of the gates. It's usually a month or two before we see versions above 1.0 (especially with Abit motherboards). So we'll see if this has any bearing on our performance results.

That's all I'll say for now:) We'll be putting this motherboard through it's paces and have a full review for guys soon. So far I definitely like what I see.

Mike, can you look under the NB and tell me what you see? You can email me if you dont want to bust the cherry on it yet. I'd like to compare it to my max2.

naaa...don't sweat it:) I don't think there is gonna be much performance gain at all over the KX7. The strong point to the KD7 so far is the feature set and the tweakability (more BIOS settings to play with :) )

I thought the KD7 was made of red PCB? It looks brown in your pic.

Nope...its' the same old tan color they have been using since the Slot A KA7 days. No fancy colors here.

But...since I'm aleady posting here, I'll go on to say that the mobo has been prepped, installed in the QP with the TECs, and is up and running already:) She's running nice and smooth so far.

I'm going to do a full reinstall of WinXP Pro +SP1 tommorow though. Everything is backed up and ready to go. I hope to benching by tomorrow evening.

BTW...another waaaaay cool thing about this KD7 is that they have the internal CPU diode working.....most excellent indeed.

Now it all comes down to how far it will go, and how stable it will be, when pushed to the limits.

Stay tuned....
