You guys remember back in September of 07 when I tried that Sharp 42" and was extremely unhappy with it? Well....
My Toshiba 46" Glass TV was finally starting to die. These odd horizontal lines began to appear on the screen. Figured.....it was time to upgrade :D
1st priority: Getting an LCD that has a viewable area as tall as my 46" glass. After all, it wouldn't make much sense to get a TV with a smaller one and essentially downgrading myself now would it? I came to the conclusion that I had to buy a 52" LCD. So now which one? Well, I was unhappy with the ghosting on the Sharp, but.....these new LCDs are simply beautiful!!! They offer faster refresh rates...and wow. :D.
I finally decided on the Samsung 650 Series 52". I considered the Toshiba, but didn't really like the exterior case. I wanted a Sony....but DAUM the price is just FAR out there for what I wanted. Everyone has written extremely well reviews about the Samsung. The only dislikes are the slight red hue on the outer trim (which I don't notice) and the extremely glossy appearance making it a dust magnet and easily reflecting glare. Neither of these were any of my concern. I spent ALL of last week deciding on which to get.
I had strongly considered buying it online....but was too scared of doing so with something this big. Best Buy had it on sale over the weekend for $2679. Sale was over, and the manager was willing to give it to me for the same price....but they had NO stock and had no clue when they are getting any in. 5 Best Buys in my area were out of stock on them, too. Jesus. Luckily, I was armed with a little printout of the sale price which was not even advertised on the internet and only showed in the in store Kiosk. I went to BrandsMart. Hmm...They wanted $2800. But had 1 in stock. I showed the guy the sale at Best Buy, and I got it for the same price. :D EVERYWHERE else I have looked, this LCD was at $3200+. LOL....this 52" looks rather decently sized in the store....but when I got home....it was like OMG it's huge!! Hahaha...I couldn't stop laughing with my brother in law at its size.
This thing is godly! Although I haven't tried a game on it, the entire screen already is far superior in visual quality to the Sharp I tried. Everything looks so crystal clear. I'm happy I was finally able to buy an LCD which I can keep!! No guys...this bad boy is NOT being returned! Went to sleep at 4am watching Chronicles of Riddick and tweaking all the image settings. I am 99.99% happy with it! What happened with that .01%? The TV has the ability to play MP3s from a USB drive. Unfortunately, the TV's player is just a bland little thing with no visual effects at all. But every other feature...I am simply too happy with it. The display's quality being the most obvious. I can not simply believe the clarity it is giving out.
I'm extremely excited now about entering the HD realm. I'm going to decide today if I should buy a PS3, or build me a small theatre PC with a Blu-Ray Drive. I can honestly say that I can finally take back anything bad I ever said about LCDs TVs. It's taken them a few years, but I think they almost have it right. :)
