I don't know if newegg is very compeditive on price.. but I noticed that X6800 chips are significantly cheaper over here, and even with postage its quite a saving.

850.00 AUD = 708.096 USD

lol, I've been waiting for BB's reply. I guess each to their own Synth. I've been saving up for a few months now for a Q6400, and I hope they are still coming. I expect it will cost me more than $500 in my money. (if they still release it)

But if I get anywhere near the mileage from it that I have from my current PC, it will be pretty good spending.

Hi Folks,
If it was not for the chess thing and the massive databases then I reckon I could get by with a 486\286 machine as I dont play games on the PC :D .... On a slightly different front the more cores and faster speeds also help with the work I do for the record shop which involves video and audio conversion which can take some time but that is from a business point of view ....

Most people and I am thinking of my friends here tend to just surf the net, play some music, emails, chat via MSN or something like Trillian and use word etc ... They may move onto ripping films. My brother uses Steinbergs Cubase and in reality you dont need mega CPU's for any of this ... The big advantage of multi core machines is that you can do more of everything at the same time without the tedious slowdown etc ... Just my 2 pence worth :)
