An ex GF made me get one so she the mad cow could get hold of me :D ... Much to my surprise it has come in handy a few times ... It is my second phone as the original got re-arranged with a hammer upon the GF becoming the `ex` ..... ahhhhh so much joy was had in that moment :D

Until recently I didn't, but bought one because I was driving some reasonable distances and would rather have comms options in an emergency.

When I live on my own, I may consider cell phone over land line. Yeah there are no minutes for land lines, but about 20% of my talking time is on them. Why pay $30 more for a land line when I can add it to my cell phone and have a lot more minutes. Very handy.

I have one and hate it. I would love to go back to the days when no one could get a hold of me. But the truth is, cell phones are extremely convenient in certain situations.

I have one and hate it as well. I like the mail and messaging component to the crackberry though as I'd much rather send a text or email than talk. which is often what I do. today my new phone comes in!!! First time running windows mobile. Wonder if I can OC it? ;)

It's gonna suck losing the speed of EV-DO, but I'm hoping the nyc area will be getting more bandwidth on the HSDPA(sp) network.. The tethering feature is a godsend.. especially when you're on a network @ work (like mine) that is so restrictive in what you can view/do, you can easily (if you have local admin rights) surf off the phone as needed. Another crappy thing is that this phone can do voice and data simultaneously, thus doubling it's leash like abilities :)

Yeah, I had to get one last year for my one job. It's nothing fancy just something they can reach me on if something breaks. :D

Got a nice ring tone of Orange Range's Song Asterisk on there though. That's about the best feature I can think of it.

It has come in handy though so it's nice to have around...sometimes. But the winters get bad around here so if I get stranded I'd like to have a phone. :D

I have one mostly just because I have an old car. But, its cheaper than a land line and I found myself using them more and more as soon as I got one.

You may say that as a joke, but if you have the right processor in the phone, its very possible! :D Mine runs at 200mhz stock, but ive had it running it 240mhz+. It really makes a difference when running things like Skype (free calls whenever you're near a wireless network if your phone has wifi in it too?!! :D). TomTom also benefits from a bit of overclocking too. Dont leave it overclocked tho, as it eats battery power!

What phone are you getting?

not to sound like a salesman but...
verizon has done right by me, i dont use a landline 99% of the time, i use the cell. i have 1500 minutes, free nights and weekends and i can call any other verizon phone for free anytime anywhere.

not to mention the verizon work cell with uber minutes shared plan 12 phones x 500 minutes = 6000 minutes free. nobody uses their work cell for personal calls except me and my boss.

cells rule:)

The ear piece is so ridiculous in my opinion, but I hate the cell phone as it is LOL

I just find it hard to believe that people need to be able to instantly pickup a call, or that you are on the phone 8+hrs a day to require an earpiece.

If they wanted to, and you know they can, they can design an ear piece to be the entire phone iteself. Oh noes...god forbid people would no longer have a cute little LCD display and the ability to take pictures at an amazing .5 megapixel capability.

I would be more than happy to have a cell phone that fits perfectly in my pocket without any toys. I want a cell phone as thin as a credit card and as strong as titanium. We can do it...if we removed 90% of the junk current cell phones have.

I like technology. I really do...when it doesn't cause unnecessary clutter.

You are living in the past, even my "cheaper" phone has 1.3 megapixel camera. Which is about 1/3 of my SLR camera I bought about two years back. Sure the features can/are stupid at times, but sometimes you just need a camera (car accident, bla bla bla, ect.) and it is an added bonus. Just think of it like a step in the right direction, such as the n93 (right?) which is doing live video conferencing on your phones! Sure, I don't take full advantage of the features, but let them fight over improving technology, while we get some cool little gadgets. Sort of like Bond.

I bet they could even make two types of cell phones, one that's a gadget phone for photos, MP3s and taking videos of racist rants, and one that's just a phone.

This blackjack is okay.. Could definately use a little overclocking.. Gonna load opera mobile and tomtom this weekend to see how it does. Hopefully someone will release some hacks for this phone soon as cingular really jumped the gun on this one.. so many features still not working.

I dont mind the BT earpiece when I drive and it works okay for skype. I wonder if I can get tomtom to use the bt headset so that I can have the radio running @ normal volume and ask/receive directions in the earpiece?

That BT navigation screen is pretty nifty too for $100. If I get a better phone clip/mount for my dash my phone screen might be enough for the map.

I have one, I've had it for a while now, I think it may be time to get a new one. I'd like a camera/video phone, that would be cool.

Wacky, it looks like you are alone...

I have a SonyEricsson k750i. Until just a couple of weeks ago it was my only camera, too. I took some holiday snaps and they were pretty good!

http://www.liquidninjas.com/photopost/watermark.php?file=2693

No substitute for the 10MP Canon Powershot A640 I just picked up, but damn good considering it's supposed to be just 2MP! You guys don't have much of the Ericsson stuff over there. Shame, it's really good!

I've had a mobile phone for years and I've got no idea what I did without it!

yeh the camera on the k750i is fantastic, i dont even have another digital camera, and plus why carry a camera and a phone around when they can be combined?

And those bluetooth earpieces are useful when talkin on the phone and driving a vehicle is illegal.

speakerphone is just fine for me, bluetooth earpieces suck unless you drop 150.00+ on a good one.

I only spent like $75 on mine and it was in a verizon shop too. I was able to walk 20 feet away from my phones (blackberry 7250 and the blackjack) and only have minimal echo/artifacts that the person on the other end heard, my sound was fine.

When will they get it through their little heads.
Moving parts = bad

Oh I second that one.. moving parts = imminent early failure in my world lol.
And for that matter, why is there only one robust adventure proof phone that seems to be widely avail? Nokia 5140i its 3 or more years old now, and light on the features.

I want something tough with a rubberised and waterproof case.
